    Hey everyone. I am in the process of making my first hack, and I hit a creative snag. I know this happens to everyone, so I'm curious as to how people deal with them.

    I, for example, am making a ton of maps I know I won't use, just to get used to mapping differently, and because mapping is my favorite part. It relaxes me. How about you all?

    I just Tile Insert, and try to find tiles people think are harder, and harder, and harder. I kill my boredom with that technique, and improves my tolerance of hard tiles.

    I also do tons of maps sometimes, just for no reason. Don't worry, it will wear off sometime.

    I really have a major problem. I'm getting slow with working with my hack. I get a huge jump on it, make a bunch of scripts, but then I get tired, and don't work on it again for a few days. School is also interfering. Does anyone know how to get me to get into it more?

    Often, taking a break is what can get someone back into it. It's kind of hard to stay away from this stuff for a little while, but once you do, it's quite relaxing. And when you feel the urge to come back and hack, do it. This is the sort of thing that you just can't rush, where you just have to chip away at it every time you get the chance.

    Those all sound like really solid plans. I may have to try to take the break. I just have an issue with breaks, because I get on PC here, then I see a new document and a new trick I wanna try, and then I'm back in.

    I script minigames if I'm bored and need some motivation or I inset tiles into a ROM to keep myself occupied. I take breaks if I feel lazy and then when I try again, I have the motivation to continue.

    Go outside.
    You have to admit, it's at least a more creative way of bypassing the character limit^^

    When I don't want to hack anymore I go play some poker - then when I lose all my money I come back.

    Concerning that, I enjoy mapping, but because I feel like my time's precious, I do other things which I consider more important, ranging from fixing my closet to writing another essay on Mathematics.
    If I do something about ROM hacking that relaxes me, though, that would be Fakemon spriting. But then again, fixing the closet comes first....

    When I hit a snag in something I'm working on, I usually try to do something else related to the hack. Since I usually sprite, I'll work on trainers or other graphical things. Tho, lately I've been hitting snags with my trainers, so I've been thinking about learning about other things for the hack that I could work on.
    And if I get really stressed over it, I go play a round of Rock Band or talk to my other hack teammates. Tho, talking to them can get me stressed a little more. Specially when my work gets handed off to one of the other spriters when I'm working on that sprite. ^^;;

    You don't.

    I stuffed up a map and knew what was wrong, but couldn't fix it, so I just stopped for a bit. Do something else, you'll want to come back sometime.
