While I strive to the best that I can possibly be, I'm not going to get that upset if someone else does better. When it comes to academics, that's the way I see it. I put my best efforts and whatever happens, happens. I accept that I'm not exactly the most studious person ever (hardly), so I'm not going to be surprised if I get lower marks compared to someone who's put a bit more time into learning the material.
In video games however, absolutely not. Video games are supposed to be for my relaxation and being competitive only ends up in me getting unnecessarily stressed when I don't need the stress.
