How do you pronounce Ekans?

I was listening to a podcast on Ekans, which I've always pronounced in my head as EE-kans (long e), but the host called it EK-ans (short E). I can't remember how they pronounced Ekans in the anime. So how do you say Ekans?

This may not be correct, but I have always pronounced it as 'EH-Kans' with the short e, kind of how you say the first part of the name 'Edward.'

Jessie and Ekans itself always pronounced it with a short e, so I wouldn't go against that pronunciation.

I always said it as Eh-kans with the short e. I remember when I first found out ekans is just snake spelled backwards. Blew my mind haha
