    seriously this is taking forever

Ok i'm new to EV/IV/everything, I started breeding dratini's cos i want a decent dragonite.
I get the nature i want - jolly but it turns out it has rubbish IV's
then i have a lonely nature, that has 27 IV in speed, thats pretty good tbh.
    But i want 31! =(
    I've wasted 2-3 hrs and i still haven't got a dritini with a 31 IV, I'm using a ditto + dratini (that doesn't have a 31 IV =( )
but even without the 31 IV from the parent, i still could have a random 31 IV right?

    Dratini
    Jolly nature
    likes to thrash about
    48 hp
    34 att
    25 def
    23 sp. att
    25 sp. def
    27 speed

    Dratini
    Lonely nature
    Impeduous and silly
    47 hp
    35 att
    25 def
    25 sp. att
    27 sp. def
    30 spd

Yes you could still get a random IV being 31 but 3 out of 6 IVS ALWAYS come from there parents by breeding so getting a good ditto or good dratini to breed with would speed things up but it's possible to get what you want without them.

    my ditto's rubbish though
and it took me like half an hr just getting that ditto

do you lvl ur hatched eggs to lvl 25 to see if you have decent IV's
becuase i just make each dratini(thats been hatched) make 6 more dratini's.

So i don't know if it's accually gd to do this or not.

Should i lvl my dratinit's to lvl 25 first? and then check IV's and then breed?

I have a long-winded way of checking my IVs.
It will take some time to do this, and is only recommended if you plan to train lots of high-IV pokemon.

    1. Acquire 3-6 Pokemon with Pickup and level them to level 50-100.
    2. Take your pickup team into the grass, kill wild pokemon.
    3. Every few battles, check your Pokemon. Remove all items.
    4. Continue until you have anywhere from 24-99 Rare Candies (99 allows 100% accuracy with IVs)
    5. Hatch the Pokemon you are trying to IV breed.
    6. Save.
    7. Use all Rare Candies on them and check IVs.
    8. Turn the Power off and on.
    9. If you like the IVs, go and EV train it. Otherwise, repeat steps 5-8.

And there you have it. I myself don't bother too much with IVs yet, but I did use this strategy once. And the other items you get from Pickup are nice too.

    Strategy 2:

Alternate method of Rare Candy collection:
    1. Get good at the Battle Tower.

    erm pickup whats that?

and y do you need it to lvl 50? can't you just do it at lvl 25?(iv checking that is )

Pickup is an ability that randomly picks up items.

The Pokemon with Pickup (Zigzagoon is an easy one to get) must be a high level, as the level determines the Pickup Items.

At Level 50, it becomes easier to pickup Rare Candies.

And yes, level 25 is a good level to check IVs, but I sometimes just like to see the Pokemon's level 100 stats.

I use to be content with ev training till i learned about Ivs..... now i just go insane trying to get My team just right.

The first Pokemon I was ever really happy with was my EV'd Lucario, I got the right IVs after getting various Lucario's to breed with each other, repeatedly, for an eternity... Then I EV'd it...

All in all, two months, three and a half weeks.

took me almost a month to get a Cranidos with the right IV/ EV and as you all know getting a fossil isn't as easy as just breeding. I'm content with my lvl 72 Rampardos now

it took me about 1 or 2 month to get nice stats on my chatot and houndoor then i kept breeding them and then i got a shiny chatot with really good IV/EV took me about 3 or more to get shiny houndour with them stats but its worth it and is fun to do so keep trying and you can do it.

    Aww let me help you.

This is what I do when I aim to breed a Pokemon with near perfect IVs (no, it's never taken me more than 2 weeks).

Decide which stats you'd most like to have 31 in. Say you were breeding a DD Bagon, then you'd want 31 in attack and speed; or if you were breeding a Donphan, then you'd want 31 in HP and defense.

Start with your Dratini and your Ditto. Breed a few Dratini until you get ones with better IVs than the Ditto and/or the other Dratini. Keep replacing the parents with the better Dratini babies once you've bred them (gross I know, but it has to be done XD). Anyways, keep breeding until you get a 31 IV in speed or attack, regardless of the other IVs. Once you get this Pokemon, breed from it. Make it one of the parents. Then wait for another baby with 31 in one of its stats (if it's speed again then great, that's absolutely fine; make it the other parent provided it's the opposite gender). Now you have both parents with a 31 IV in speed, so your babies are highly likely to get 31 in speed. Keep breeding until you get a 31 IV in another stat like attack, and hopefully it will also have the 31 in speed you already had on the parents. If not then don't worry, breed them both. Just keep going like this until you're satisfied. Don't just mass breed from the Ditto and original Dratini cos that won't get you anywhere. I hope that made sense >.<

As for IV checking, use this IV calculator. It's really accurate and you don't have to level to lv.50 or anything like that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: HP and defense are harder to inherit than the other stats. Uhh... that takes a lot of explaining. I don't want to put you off reading my already length post XD

Lady, to get my team, I had to breed for about a year. Of course, Vileplume alone took about 5 months.

You breed so much, it's not gross anymore. You just want the lil bastards to make a baby. :\

Whoa it took you that long? You were breeding for the right Hidden Power, weren't you? Oh dear... I would never have the patience to do that >.< I hate breeding more than enough without including Hidden Powers into it as well D: That must have been... a nightmare o.O

It is impossible to get 100% accurate IVs from a level 1.

That is true, unless one parent has 31 IVs in at least 2 stats and the other parent has 31 IVs in at least one stat. The chances of getting a Pokemon with perfect IVs from the wild is a tiny 1/1,073,741,824. You've got more change of winning the lottery XD

Since I have two DS's, Diamond, & my friends Pearl, I can easily get IV battles whenever. Cuts the time in half.

Of course, I didn't back then...

    My Shiny Giratina xD

    Took me 4 months

    You can't breed Giratina.

as Shin Akuma stated it doesnt say how long until you hatched the perfect pokemon its how long did it take you to get a pokemon you were happy with so he probally SR (soft reset) it to get it just like me XD
