This bothered me for many many years. Totodile was and always will be my favourite pokemon but what happend with his evolution in years made me very angry. In Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Feraligatr looks like it might eat your hand, but in the latest versions it looks like something that came from microwave. I don't know it just seems to me like the creators are trying to make pokemons more cute than terrifying/badass. I don't mind pokemon being cute but i prefer next evolutions to be more mature, frightening. What do you think? Are you happy with some changes in other pokemon from old generations?

I think the newer version looks pretty badass. The older one looks hideous.

I find nothing wrong with the newer version, I like it.

I honestly see nothing different from the two pictures other than one is sprited and has a scowl and the other one is concept art and it has a smile on it's face instead of a scowl. Other than those two things I see nothing else different.

If you want to see a really huge leap in art changing you need to further back into pokemon's roots, here's one of my all time favorites.

This is Gastly in Red and Blue version.

This is Gastly in Yellow version.

    What happened?
The pokemon anime happened. Forever changed everybody's view on how Gastly was supposed to look. I always kind of wished they kept the savage looking gas appearance rather than the black ball look.

You're comparing a Feraligatr sprite to Feraligatr concept art - it's an apples to oranges comparison because they're not really made with the same style or meant to look at all the same. Compare Gen II Feraligatr to a Gen VI sprite.

    Looks just as vicious.

I don't know maybe i'm the only person who still see many differences f.ex his jaw looks longer in 2gen he has a little different alignment of the spine and it's not just picture it's like the structure is a little different. He looks much more muscular in 2gen. I know I'm complaining on something that no one probably sees but he is my favorite pokemon so i see the difference like mother can see difference between her identical twins that no one sees. But my real question anyway was Do you see changes that they made on old pokemons that you don't like.

I agree completely with what you're saying, OP. I consistently picked Totodile when I played gen II, and it was mostly because of the design of the final evolution. It had a very clearly defined theme of intimidation- more so when you take the back sprite and cry into account. The newer versions look like Yoshi with fangs. It's like the designers forgot what they were going for. Sure, there's a difference between models and concept arts- but something clearly got lost in translation.

I agree that he a bit different. He is way more intimidating and monstrous in the Gen 2 sprite. I still love his design overall, but I prefer the older one. Styles will change over time so you can't really be mad about it, plus it gives you a reason to play the older ones too so you can see how things changed.

I think in my eyes with Feraligatr, it's not the design change (there's not a huge one imo, but it is a bit noticeable in the posing anyway), but rather the color change that bugs me. It's just a more personal thing but lots of the original Pokémon colors looked a lot better than the ones now, Feraligatr's a great example of this (the periwinkle-like color looked amazing) but others like Bellossom, Ho-Oh, etc. also are too. I find that the newer games have been dulling out the colors of certain Pokémon for some reason, not really sure why but hey. Pikachu also has a less-saturated color (it's pretty much just pale yellow) when in the past it was an adorable vibrant yellow.

Perhaps I'm nitpicking a little bit but I really do miss some of the older colors, heheh. ='p Still, Pokémon are Pokémon and I'll love them no matter what.♥

    Cloyster's shell always confused me.

Yet another case of a RB sprite being completely different from the others.
