How to Make Role-Play Post

I personally like reading those times of post. But the people who post them have nothing better to do than sit on there computer and type on one rp. It only ever gets that bad when you get hardcore rpers in the rp. Everyone here has something else better to do than just sit on their computer and type a huge rp post.

Good advice, RT. Yeah, I think I did that on the one before this "How to make role-play post" thread. So.... *edit*

Anyway, the issue seems to be mostly resolved, but I don't believe that length is a major icon of good Rpers. For example, look at kirby 00's posts. Lengthy, but far from good RPing. If you can get the actions, emotions, story continuity, and dialogue acroos in a condensed format, then by all means, do so.

Secondly, there are some thing I'd like to add if you don't mind. Mainly RP creation and character creation, I see a good amount of goof-ups in these areas.

Ooo this should be interesting, I love characterization, fun fun fun! XD It's so interesting, seeing how each character id going to develop throughout the plot, but it can get irritating when people drastically change this or that for no apparent reason… That, and when characters are just SO unbelievable, I've seen a ton of people saying,

"Is courageous, is strong, is athletic," Etc… WHAT HAPPENED TO

"Is afraid of heights, dislikes so-and-so pokemon," and so on… I should start doing that, hehe. Characters are often too … Unoriginal? What happened to the memorable characters! ='(… I'm trying to think if there were any memorable characters at all… I didn't think about adding fears into a profile until I was doing this post, so I just learned something new, yay!

Now that's exactly what I'm talking about. So many seem to be afraid to have their character have faults of get them killed or something, even at the expense of realism. I mean, I was in a Naruto RP and I saw something to the effect of
Sasuke felt pain explode in his gut. He looked down and saw a katana sticking straight through his abdomen. Pushing himself up, he said "Nicely done."
*Sarcasm* Anyone want to tell me the flaw here?*End sarcasm*

HAHAHA Interesting, interesting… It would kinda stink if you had your character killed… But that sure would add drama to rps! And then there is always the whole ghostish sorta thing, haha cool, just thinking of the possibilities

I personally enjoy it when an RPer isn't afraid to get their character killed. They can always be brought back in another RP and then you can play the vengeful family member card in the current one.

Oh, clever! I should try that sometime… if people take this into account, some people at the Pokemon Academy might be dying, haha. It's been getting fairly… Detailed… With the blood and all >.o… But that's okay, I like the "Vengeful family" idea, that just sounds like… fun…

As long as the vengance isn't overdone. which leads me into another point, which is the cut&past characters. We know it can be difficult to create an interesting and new character, so I think that there are couple of old standbys used. The Heartless Assassin, The Vengeful Son, The Kindhearted Half-Demon. They seem to pop up quite a bitt, particularly among RP n00bs.

Uh-oh, *hides* I'm afraid I'm guilty of that… It's just so hard saying good-bye to my characters!! *sniff* I've been Rping with the same characters since I started… Every now-and-then, I add new characters to use… So far I only have 2 that I use regularly, but it isn't often that I create a completely new character… I should try that one day… I just might XD

Eh, I have a couple of older ones that I use too, but I try to keep 'em interesting. I've discarded all the ones I started with.

I think this is a fairly big problem in Role playing that when people are asked for a history they are too lazy to write anything so the character's history is something like:

So and so was abandoned at birth and his whereabouts have been unknown, up until now...

One question arises from this is why would the character suddenly appear from nowhere right now? Well that is just my two cents worth.

Another thing is that I really like description and some people just can't post using description well enough. The format of role playing using the ** is most commonly known as scripting but it isn't real scripting. Some other forums have banned the use of this because it promotes bad role playing and fan fic writing.

Someone mentioned earlier something about characters lacking bad points. This is a problem and I think all characters need to have good and bad points for the character to seem anything like a real person. My main character is smart and friendly but is also extremely lazy and has a phobia of the rain!

I stopped role playing here because some of the above things were getting to me and I couldn't handle staying here so I left and now I mainly post at the Serebii.net forums. I'm back now but not much seems to have changed. Maybe with this thread things will start to get better. You can choose to ignore this post if you don't like it but this is not fact, just my opinion.

I was like that when I first started, I had no history! XD But now my character's historys are everything that's happened from when I started up until now... Or at least the little bit that I've managed to tie together. It can be hard for new users to develop a character while just starting off, not that it can't be pulled off-- it definitely can. I think that maybe there should be a role play for newer users specirfically, but with 1 or 2 more experienced role players to guide them... This way, they can develop their character's signature traits, and make friends with other new rpers like themselves, which will eventually move onto role playing with the more experienced rpers and get to know them better as well. I'm not saying all new rpers need this, but I actually think it'd be kinda neat... Gee, I would've LOVED to have an rp like that back when I was starting!

I use the same characters too XD Like my most used character is definatly "Scott Hawkins" with his trusty Charizard Dragonite Haunter, Crobat and Snorlax XD but he was intended to be the comic releif in the RPs he's in but i usually use Cloud or Jake for that now XD but yeah i seriously hate RPers that only post things like (example)

Bobby: *throws a Pokeball* My first pokemon!

or my other pet peeve

Hey Looks like im gonna go catch a pokemon! catches a Pokemon

AAAAAHHHH!!! *burns the examples* XD

Well I'm guessing this is an add stuff as you can so since Raichu Master is doing how to make a role play post, I'll do how to fill in a sign up form properly!

OK to start with these are for pokemon role plays but most role plays use pretty much the same thing and this is for people filling out Sign ups and people setting them. A Sign up is a form that is used to make a character for a role play you are wishing to enter. They have a few basic requirements that need to be filled in.

Name: This is where you state what your Character is to be called in the RP. Make sure it is appropriate for the specific RP, don't make it Bob or Jane in a medieval setting.

Gender: Just incase you don't know its either Male or Female.

Age: Put the age of your Character here. Sometimes the Game Master (person who has created the RP and is in control of it) will put a restriction on it. Remember that a 10 year old thinks quite a bit differently to a 26 year old so think about the RP before you put any old age in.

Physical Appearance: This is how your character looks. Put thought into it, make it lengthy, a single line is not appropriate. The more you go into detail, the more people reading the RP can visulise your character. Again remember that the RP's setting will influence what your character wears.

Personality: This is how your character acts. Again the more detail the better, one liners are not good. A thing to remember is that to make your character seem real they need to have good points and bad points. Writing that your character is nice, friendly and helpful is not a good personality. Also the personality nice, helpful, caring, friendly but has a bad temper is very much over used and should be avoided at all costs. Don't contradict yourself either, saying nice, friendly but sometimes sad, is the life of the crowd but likes to be alone is not good.

History: This is your character's history. Don't say your character's past is unknown, that just tells people that you are too lazy to write one. Don't be abandoned by your parents at birth either, this one is fairly over used. Remember that if you plan to use the same character for most of your RPs that for each individual RP you may need to adjust the history so it fits with each plot.

Starter Pokemon/Pokemon Team: Pretty obviously this is where you put your pokemon in. If the RP has your character only just recieving his/her first pokemon your preferred pokemon of choice goes here. If the RP says your character is already a pokemon trainer/breeder whatever, your pokemon team goes here. Most RPs forbid the use of Legendaries so forget about them. Sometimes restrictions apply to the pokemon you can choose so always read the plot first so you have no need to edit afterwards.

Other: This is for any other relevant information about your character that has not been covered by any of the other fields. If you have nothing to add, leave this blank, don't put useless information.

Ok they are the basic information fields in a Sign up but some RPs might have other things that need to be filled out that are specific to the RP. For some examples of sign ups, here are my three major characters.

Name: Daniel James Hunter

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Physical Description: His hair is a jet black and always untidy but it is usually hidden under his favorite red cap. His eyes are a deep brown but he wears black rimmed sunglasses with the lenses reflecting a dull yellow colour. He wears a plain white T-shirt on his torso but has a red coat in his back-pack that he wears when the weather turns nasty. He has a red back-pack that all his personal belongings are kept in. He wears black denium jeans that reflect slightly in the light to look like a silky silvery colour. His shoes are nothing special, just white sneakers.

Personality: To everyone who doesn't know him well he seems distant and unfriendly but it is only when he really gets to know someone that he will really open up and show them how he really feels about them. Shows little emotion about anything and any situation seems to make him bored. Most of this is due to his extreme laziness. He just can't be bothered reacting to anything that happens around him. Even though lazy, he is smart and has a huge knowledge of the world of Pokemon and he holds it all in his amazing memory. Amazing to the fact that he can remember exactly what you said last week in a conversation about lettuce but forgets where he put his shoes half an hour ago! If you are in need of something he may seem uninterested but when you turn your back he will do everything he can in order to help you. He may have his faults but he is a true friend.

History: He was born in Lavaridge Town and his father is the Pokemon Professor who lives there. His mother is dead or so his dad says but he has suspisions that his mother left his dad and is still alive. His mother is actually Lanette, the creator of the new Pokemon Box. Daniel learns much about the pokemon world from his dad and wishes to follow in his footsteps. He has been all over the world with his dad because his dad gives starter pokemon to trainers who live in places that have no resident pokemon researcher. He has two very close friends, Chris and Sarah.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE HISTORY OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP
Sarah is the daughter of Flannery, the Lavaridge gym leader and Chris lives with his Grandparents in Lavaridge because his parents are always traveling on business (They are my characters as well and both will soon have their own historys as well). The three of them are the best of friends and are always pulling pranks and practical jokes on the townsfolk of Lavaridge. Their birthdays are strange because Daniel's is the 7th of December, Sarah's the 8th and Chris' the 9th and all in the same year. When they had all turned 10, they recived their pokemon together. Daniel chose a Torchic, Sarah a Cyndaquil and Chris a Charmander. Chris chose to leave Lavaridge Town to start his pokemon journey. Sarah stayed because her mother is the gym leader and she wanted to become the next leader.

Daniel stayed in Lavaridge to learn more about pokemon from his dad. He has got some more pokemon since his first one and he currently has Blaziken, Bagon, Marshtomp, Treecko, Manectric and a Sandshrew.
When Daniel turned 16 his father told him that he should go on an adventure with his pokemon. His dad told him there is only so much a book can teach you but a real life experience can teach much more. Daniel is about to set out on a journey to capture pokemon and learn as much as he can about them.

Pokemon Team: Blaziken, Bagon, Marshtomp, Treecko, Manectric and a Sandshrew.

Name: Christopher Morris Miller

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Physical Description: His hair is a dark blonde, light brown colour. It is usually held in place with hair product. His eyes are a light blue and seem to reflect everything. A brown T-shirt covers his muscular torso and on top of that is a brown jacket with two white stripes running down its arms. If the weather gets warm he rolls the jacket sleeves up to his elbows. His black jeans cover his legs and his shoes are brown street shoes.

Personality: He is a natural leader and seems to take control in every situation. He is helpful and friendly to everyone including complete strangers. He is very energetic and loves sport. He works out once a day to keep himself at peak physical condition. Has a tendancy to rush forward without thinking but it will always be for the good of someone else. His emotions can get the better of him and may do things that he regrets afterwards. He is willing to stick up for anyone and anything smaller or weaker than himself even when the odds are against himself. He is also a bit gullible and so can be confused easily.

History: He was born in Sootopolis City but has lived in Lavaridge Town with his grandparents since he was 2. His parents are always away on business and so Chris hardly knows them. Chris has no idea of what they do but they are great pokemon trainers because they send him many rare items and when he has seen them he has seen their strong pokemon. In actual fact his father is Archie, the leader of Team Aqua. His mother is also highly ranked in Team Aqua. He has two extremely close friends, Daniel and Sarah.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE HISTORY OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP
Sarah is the daughter of Flannery, the Lavaridge gym leader and Daniel is the son of a pokemon researcher living in Lavaridge. (They are my characters as well and both have their own historys as well). The three of them are the best of friends and are always pulling pranks and practical jokes on the townsfolk of Lavaridge. Daniel stayed because he wants to become a pokemon researcher like his dad.

Chris left Lavaridge as soon as he got his Charmander and has been training ever since. Now 16 he has a Charizard, Houndoom, Camerupt, Absol, Sableye and a Gengar. He has all eight badges of Hoenn and is currently competing in the Pokemon League.

Pokemon Team: Charizard, Houndoom, Camerupt, Absol, Sableye and Gengar.

Name: Sarah Jane Anderson

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Physical Description: She has silky brown hair that runs down her back. Her eyes are an attractive green and always seem to sparkle. She is well developed for a girl and wears a pink top that shows her mid section. She carries a white jumper in her bag incase it gets colder. Her bag is white and pink and looks like the one the girl has in R/S. She wears a white mini-skirt but has jeans in her bag as well. She wears normal white sneakers on her feet.

Personality: She is very caring and loves cute pokemon although this doesn't stop her from using powerhouse pokemon. Some would say she isn't cut out for being a gym leader but she can do anything if she puts her mind to it. She is a bit of a flirt and sometimes a bit shallow but she always will help a friend in need. Even though she seems very cute she has a taste for practical jokes. She can make even the most angry of people laugh and be happy, she just has that kind of feel about her. She is a bit of a goof because she is always falling over her feet or falling in the hot springs, most of her day is spent falling over and getting back up again. None of this worrys her though and she gets back up after each fall beaming more than before. She may have bad luck but she loves her family, friends and pokemon with all of her heart.

History: She was born in Lavaridge Town where she lives with her parents. Her mother is Flannery, the Lavaridge Town Gym Leader and her father is Kenneth Anderson, a Pokemon Breeder from Rustboro City. She has lived a somewhat sheltered life or so her parents think. After she announces going to bed, she usually sneaks out her bedroom window to be with her two closest friends, Daniel and Chris.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE HISTORY OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP
Chris lives with his Grandparents in Lavaridge because his parents are always traveling on business and Daniel is the son of a pokemon researcher living in Lavaridge (They are my characters as well and both have their own historys as well). Chris chose to leave Lavaridge Town to start his pokemon journey.

Sarah stayed in Lavaridge because her mother is the gym leader and she wanted to become the next leader. She is now 16 and has a variety of fire pokemon in her team and they are; Typhlosion, Ninetales, Magmar, Flareon, Magcargo and a Torkoal. Her mother is still the gym leader but Sarah is a Trainer within the gym.

Pokemon Team: Typhlosion, Ninetails, Magmar, Flareon, Magcargo and Torkoal.
