How to: Put Videos on your PSP and browsing the web on it

    As many fellow PSP owners know, it can be tough to put videos on your PSP without paying. And if you own Wipeout Pure, you can browse the web. first of, putting videos on your PSP can be done with PSP Video 9, here is the site and how to do it. https://www.pspvideo9.com/started.html

    That's pretty much all I have to contibute on the PSP.
     
    How to browse the web with PSP

    Wipeout Pure has a download feature, presumably to download additional game content in the future. It uses a simplified HTML browser to access and dowload this content. Right now, there is nothing to download, just a placeholder image on their webserver.

    The PSP allows you to set all the wireless networking parameters, including the DNS server. Normally, when any DNS server does a lookup for https://ingame.scea.com/wipeout/index.html where the download content will be in the future, it returns the real address for that server.

    If you have a wireless 802.11b network connected to the internet, you can configure your PSP to use it from the Network settings menus. This will let you update the system software from the settings menus, but there is no update available yet and it will tell you so.

    If you have your own DNS server on your wireless network, you can configure that DNS server to return any address you want for ingame.scea.com. This will send the browser in Wipeout Pure to whatever address you want.

    If you have your own webspace, you can create a /wipeout/index.html page on it with links to whatever you like. The result is that whenever you go to the Downloads feature in Wipeout Pure, the browser will go where your own DNS sends it because your DNS isn't looking up the real address.

    There are many ways to achieve the same results, and how your jome network is set up affects many of them. But the basic steps are the same:

    0. Have a copy of Wipeout Pure.
    1. Have a 802.11b compatible wireless network.
    2. Have a way to control DNS lookups for ingame.scea.com.
    3. Have some other webserver address to direct to.

    The ONLY changes you need to make on your PSP are for the DNS server. Point it to one that returns what you want instead of the scea.com domain and that's the whole hack.
     
    I remember hearing about this on gamefaqs, I wonder if the creators of the wipeout pure browser anticipated that it would be used for general browsing insted of just the download content it was intended for.

    But when I get my PSP (someday XD), I'll be sure to get wipeout pure and check this out.

    As far as I know Spider Man 2 is the only UMD movie out right now. When others come out I'm sure you can find them at stores where you buy the PSP and PSP Games.


    I don't find much use for the web browsing on PSP. I mean you got a computer, why do all them steps to get on the net when you got a computer and the screen is like 20 times larger. Sure it might look cool but try making a large post on PC with it. That is if you can type with it. XD

    The one where it turns movies from the computer to moives you can play on the PSP is something I'll try when I have the time. The only movie on my computer that will work on the PSP is a Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children trailer. And that is 45mb, and I got a 32mb M-Stick. But I got a few KH Trailers that's far smaller and I would like to see what they look like on the PSP (that is if that link up there does what I think it does).
     
    It's not really tough to put movies on PSP, you just need to know where to put them. When you link your PSP to your PC, you see the folders for gamesaves, music, images, etc, but no video folder! Common sense tells you to label the folder Video to go accordingly like the other ones, but in this case common sense decieves you! *plays twilight zone music*

    But really, you just need to know what to label the folders and you'll be fine. PSPVideo9 is a great program to not only do it for you, but also convert the videos to the size/quality/filetype you'll need for your PSP.

    Web browsing? Eh, just wait until they have a downloadable update(or possibly a UMD or PC based update). You're essentially paying $50 for a browser worst than ie, having to use PSP's annoying text input system, etc etc...
    Sony broke a little more ground on web browsing for handhelds, so I'll be expecting greater things in machines to come, but for now it's crap. Just like pictochat for DS, it has no real use, but you'll have some g33ky bragging rights amoung your friends for a while.
     
    Yeah, web browsing on the PSP is pretty useless, buying Wipeout Pure just for that, but it is pretty cool once you actually do it, but it's still useless.
