As we know pokemon go eats through data so fast, so I'm wondering how I can keep my data usage down whilst playing.
Honestly, I think the game is remarkably good on data usage.
With that said, the main thing I've heard regarding data is that the Pokestops are the main data usage point because the image on each stop doesn't get cached for repeated use--the game literally loads that image every time you open the pokestop.
Does that mean you visit less pokestops? I dunno... I don't exactly like that train of thought. But maybe if, like me, sometimes pokestops have a hard time loading and have to be opened multiple times just to get it to work...... maybe you just let that one go when that happens.
I've heard downloading google maps and saving your area to offline helps decrease data usage but it's a rumour which I don't think is true

Nope; it actually uses less as far as I'm aware. Whilst you're walking around the screen is constantly updating and searching for what's around you and updating/tracking nearby gyms, PokéStops, etc, but whilst you're in an encounter it's just a simple "did this ball work" decision. Regardless I don't believe anything in the app uses that much data so I wonder if you have other apps open in the background causing this intense usage?Does capturing Pokemon use more data than just having the App open?
