Hurricane Season 2006

Meh... can't say I wasn't surprised. I mean, these seasons only seem to get worse every year. I feel for the people who live in the south of the US. Especially if they're poor; which usually means that they have poor housing/no money to move or escape/nothing to rebuild their lives with. Luckily in California we don't get those things. ^^ We do have fires and (occasionally) earthquakes though. o.o And this fire season is supposed to be the worst in a long while with all of the tall grass from the long winter. Katrina hit as a cat 4. The reason it was so devastating was because:

A: The city was already below sea level
B: The levees all broke and flooded the city
C: New Orleans has some very poor areas already

I've lived in Houston for thirteen years, the last major, major storm to hit here was (I think)Tropical Storm Allison. We got severe flooding on the freeways, but my area wasn't affected, but when I was going to summer school, my teacher told us how she got stuck in her house because of the flooding. Houston rarely gets devastations like the southeast does, but we do get frequent bad weather. Like tornadoes, for instance.
It hit as a CAT 3. I asked my cousin.

Allison was a really bad storm, but I didn't get flooded. XD

You can't be too safe. There are always tornados.

Well, Ray Nagin pulled it off; he's mayor for the next four years. Amazing. Now what's going to happen with the levees and the possibility of future hurricanes?

That's a matter for the Federal government. I don't blame Rey Nagan for the levees breaking, cos it was the federals who were supposed to build it right and maintain it.

BTW, notice how both Gordon and Tony are in the list for this years hurricanes? (Gordon Brown tipped to be next PM, Tony Blair the current PM). It's like someone wants there to be a Hurricane Tony so they can make 'oh so witty' headline puns.

After Hurricane katrina, everyone's been blaming Bush. Poor guy! Another hurricane will strike again, and all the press will say is "WE BLAME BUSH!" even though no one can control the forces of nature.

Well for Hurricane Katrina I set up alot of programs and other stuff in my community and school to help those victims. I will do that again if its worst.

They can control how the people get out. Though that was the mayor's fault and that's the reason there were a lot of buses underwater.

He wasn't being blamed for the hurricane itself, he was being blamed for the slow response. If I remember correctly, it took five days after the hurricane hit to send help to New Orleans.

What really PO'd me was when the mayor of New Orleans said "We need to rebuild this chocolate city!". That's worst metaphor I ever heard! He sounds freaken racist and I hope that he doesn't stay there much longer.

The mayor himself is black, so he's allowed to be racist to black people. Though that is a horrible metaphor.
