Just wondering if teaching a move like Hydro Pump, which has 80 accuracy compared to Surf's 100 accuracy, if teaching a move like Hydro Pump to Tentacruel, or to any pkmn with average Sp. Atk(Golduck, Politoed, Mantine etc.) is a bad move choice? Or should I just max its Sp. Atk and give it Surf? This question goes to giving a pkmn Fire Blast instead of Flamethrower, Thunder instead of Thunderbolt and Blizzard instead of Ice Beam.

Well I've seen Salamence sets where they give him Fire Blast to take out Skarmory (a physical wall, since Sala is normally a physical attacker), but I think that all three have slightly different accuracy, not sure though

Hydro Pump - 80
Fire Blast - 80
Blizzard - 70
Thunder - 70

That's why Blizzard and Thunder have Hail and Rain Dance.

I prefer more precission and PP's. You can use surf three times more than Hydro Pump, and causes more than half of HP's damage. Max your Sp. Atk nevertheless.

Well.. This is the attack formula I got from Serebii.

((((2 * Level / 5 + 2) * AttackStat * AttackPower / DefenseStat) / 50) + 2) * STAB * Weakness/Resistance * RandomNumber / 100

Hydro Pump - ((((2 * 100 / 5 + 2) * 280(average) * 120 / 280(average)) / 50) + 2) * 1.5 * 1 * 100 / 100 = ~104

Surf - ((((2 * 100 / 5 + 2) * 95 * 280(average) / 280(average) / 50) + 2) * 1.5 * 1 * 100 / 100 = ~83

Assuming the average HP is 280, it would take 3 Hydro Pumps or 4 Surfs to KO, that's also assuming all 3 Hydro Pumps hit.

hydro pump is acceptable on extreme bulky waters like Omastar and sometimes, Blastoise.

Mizer is right. I have to agree, Hydro Pump won't do. Bubblebeam suit him/her.
