Despite what I said in this thread, it turns out that I'm, like, soooooo totally in love with Zubat! Or, at least I used to be. Apparently.
Rummaging around my bedroom in a vague attempt to clean up the place, I stumbled upon my old Game Boy collection, and GBA SP. Among the rubble that includes Tazmanian Devil Munching Madness and what I can only assume is a ROM cartridge with such classic, original games as Maya &Friend and Mines Weeper (yes, you read that right), is my old Pokemon cartridges. In all honesty, I thought there was a high chance that these would have been thrown out, so I was very surprised to find them alive and well. Then, I did what any self-respecting member of PC would do in this situation and inserted them into the GBA to find out howawesome crap I was as a trainer all those years ago. (With 'all those years' being between 5-10 years.)
First up: Pokemon Blue. Unfortunately, I must have restarted the game and gotten bored with it mid-way through. I was in Mt. Moon, and my team consisted of a Lv17 Ivysaur (bleh!), Lv16 Pidgey, Lv17 Pikachu... and Lv9 Zubat. Huh! That was a bit of a shocker. After walking through the mountain and fighting a Rocket (who's sprites look really creepy in a kind of sadomasochistic way), I got bored and replaced Blue with Yellow.
Serendipitoudly, the same thing happened in Yellow. I was in Mt. Moon again (a different part, this time) and my team consisted of a Lv15 Pikachu, Lv 14 Pidgey, Lv16 Nidorina... and Lv8 Zubat. Again, this struck me as odd. I really like Crobat, but that's more on a conceptual level; I don't think I'd ever use one in a team, though I can certainly see their appeal. However, Crobat hadn't even been 'discovered' at this point in the PokéUniverse, so I don't know what I'd been snorting at this point.
Unfortunately, my Gold file had been corrupted, so there was literally nothing to show for that (which was probably the most disappointing discovery of this expedition), but my Sapphire was going strong, and it appeared that I hadn't blindly started a new save file. Success! And I was at Ever Grande City upon starting it up; I must have had a kick-ass team, right? Well... see for yourself:
Lv43 Lanturn, Lv45 Dustox, Lv45 Kyogre, Lv52 Blaziken
THAT'S IT! Just 4 critters! So, in a state of panic, I go to the PC to check what I've boxed, as I seriously couldn't have made it through the game with just those four, and what do I find?
A PC BOX FULL OF 20 ZUBATS ALL AT LV30!
And then my heart sank. It was obvious that between the ages of 11-15, I must reeeeeeeeeeally have loved Zubat for some ungodly reason. It's times like this that I feel I don't deserve to call myself a 'Pokemon fan'. Sigh...
