I just realized...

You just realized this now?
Imagine this, all your Pokemon fainted on the Mirage Island due to the Destiny Bond & you can't Fly or Surf back----transferring data-----in other laments terms-YOU ARE TRAPPED!

You do realize that if all of your pokes have fainted, you wipe out and run off to the closest pokemon center? xD

Well, for surfing you could always send out the Pokémon into the water, assuming it floats, and paddle your way across using it as a raft or something until it wakes up. :P

But yeah, it's just one of those game mechanics things where if you wander out to a deserted island and all your flying and surfing Pokémon faint and you run out of Revives... you have a way to get back. XD;

Well, I just assumed that when they returned to their ball, they felt better, something about the ball heals them a little. But they still "Mentally" don't feel like battling.

Fainted doesn't mean they're dead sweetie, it means they're unable to battle. And if they're too tired to use an HM, the trainer assists them. XD For example, when a trainer needs a Pokémon to use cut, all he/she has to do is take what ever part that's sharp on their Pokémon and there we go. XD For surf, the Pokémon just becomes a raft, and is completely unaware of it! For fly...I'll get back to you on that. XD

Also sweetie, if you're going to question the game's mechanics, might as well ask why a Level 2 Pidgey is able to carry a 100+ lb trainer...with a bike...in their backpack. XD

How about that you play the game, make all your pokemon faint on Mirage Island, and then you tell me what happened? xD
(Besides, I don't really know how you actually could run to a pokemon center from an island. I suppose we all get to steal Mistys water-fused-bike at some point and pedal across the sea :P)

I like how I can Fly on a dead Pidgey XD If that's not animal abuse, I don't know what is.

lol, Pokemon is all about animal cruelty, think about it, if someone went into the woods in the real world and beat up a fox to the point where it was unable to defend itself, kept it in a cage one fifth of its size and only released it to fight other foxes, they'd be arrested and probably killed by animal rights protesters, but in the Pokemon world this is all acceptable =D

You could always battle wild pokemon until you black out?
Or they could make it so there's a timer in place, prehaps represented as a bar lol :)
And while your Pokemon is fainted it has to wait for this bar to fill up before you can use the hm, and surf can only be used for a limited time before something bad happens :O

But what if you are on water? If your surfing Pokemon faints, then... YOU ARE TRAPPED!

XDD

If anyone watches the anime, it appears as if the Pokemon only faint for a short length of time. For example, after Pikachu battles, Ash would always talk to it and tell it that he did a good job, and Pikachu would wake up. Maybe that's how it works...?

I mean, if you were to faint, you wouldn't go for ages without conciousness. You would probably wake up after a short amount of time, but probably still weakened to an extent that you can't fight or anything.

I always thought of that as overworking your Pokes---abuse even.

Lol, hold up Pidgeot in a drift and hang on....

Basically. The games are well-planned, so you cannot end up in a situation that is impossible to escape. Many games have this problem and there is little that can be done to fix it. Golden Sun, for instance had several "black holes" where the player could get permanently stuck. Even if you didn't save, you could lose hours in progress. To combat this, there was a button combo that could be held when saving to return to a Temple. (Equivalent of a Pokemon Centre) Pokemon has so many flags and story implications to employ an idea like this, so they have little choice.

Well, while fainted technically means just that, fainted, in the games it specifically says: [the pokémon] has no will to fight!" So, it may be that the pokémon are only incapacitated for battle. Perhaps in the same way athletes sustain injury and may not be able to compete but can continue to lead an otherwise healthy and normal life, until they recouperate. Its a stretch, of course.

Yours makes the most sense.

I agree with him, they probably are just not fit to fight. Kind of like this scenario.

Just because you can run a block to your bus stop doesn't mean you can run a marathon.

What I mean by that is that Just because you can't run a marathon, doesn't mean you can't run in general.

So for Pokemon, just because they can't fight, doesn't mean they can't do regular things.

Sorry if thats confusing but if it helps, I have confused myself. xD

That really makes sense, but.
Imagine you have a fainted Pidgey, only that. What would be the most challenging option, fighting a Caterpie, or fly to Indigo Plateau whilst carrying the trainer and his/her bike in their backpack as well?

I don't know how anyone else defines strange, but to me, it seems a bit strange that in the pokemonworld, the Pidgey is able to fly a marathon, but is unable to flap its wings to create the gust necessary to KO the Caterpie.
