Wow he finishes getting all the badges (Indigo League) at 63-64 and he leaves at 117?
First of all... Welome to the Pokemon anime! It's pretty cool to know that there are still people just getting into the anime.
Now, if you don't mind some spoilers...
Spoiler:You're right! Ash gets his 8th badge in EP64 (maybe 63?), called "The Battle of the Badge!"
And to answer your other question, Ash goes to the next region, Johto, in EP117, called "Don't Touch that 'dile!"
More spoilers:
Spoiler:Ash goes to the next region, Hoenn, in the next series called Advanced Generation. It starts at EP275 (or AG01) with "Get the Show on the Road!"
The Orange Islands count as a region. :\
Spoiler:Well, after the Indigo Plateau Conference (which starts around episode 75) is done, there is a 35-something-ish episode arc called the Orange Islands. After that's done, he heads for Johto and trys to get all 8 badges there. Johto is quite a bit longer than Kanto.... It's around 150 episodes.
Good luck with this! I recently got back into the Pokemon anime after about 8 years or so (I had forgotten about Pokemon for a few years). I started watching from the beginning about 6 months ago and I'm finally up to Diamond and Pearl (but not all the way caught up yet, I'm at the episode "Poketch Unavailable").
All I can say is, try not to pull your hair out or gouge out your eyes haha. I watched something like 470 episodes in a couple months. I don't know how many more Team Rocket mottos, mechas or haphazard plans I'll be able to take haha (not bashing TR by the way, Jessie and James have always been two of my favorite characters!).
If you really want a good experience, try watching the episodes in Japanese with subtitles. It made it much more interesting to me.
Just wait til you get to Johto: The land of filler episodes.
That doesn't change the fact that, technically, it is considered a region. The video games don't decide what counts, and the Orange Islands are indeed official. It's important in the anime, but going by the video games, it's not really an official region. It was made for the anime.
haha well keep watching I've seen close to every episode of Pokemon and after not watching it for five or so years I decided to do what you did. Trust me watch every season you will not regret it.
Does "Pokémon: The First Movie" (1999) continue straight after the first season?
The movies actually aren't canon with the anime. If you want however, I guess the best time to watch it would be between the first season (Indigo League) and the second (Orange League). Although it doesn't really matter when you watch the movies.

LDUK said:I'm now moving onto Season 2, and wondered when the 2nd Pokémon movie should be watched.
