3rd Gen I NEED EV TRAINING CLARIFICATION ASAP

    Hey everyone,

So I have a pretty big question that I've been trying to answer now for probably two years and the internet could not be any more useless and ambiguous so I'm turning to the true Pokemon fans. My question is regarding EV training, more specifically how this works. Now for some who are thinking, "oh boy, everyone knows" let me clarify first before you refrain from answering. I have on my phone a copy of Pokemon Emerald and for my entire career I've wanted to retire from Pokemon (Not a fan of generation 5 and 6) after having a copy of all Pokemon (check) and also to beat the original battle frontier. So to beat them I entered gameshark codes to catch ridiculous and proper Pokemon for battling. So, let me pose my question: When training a Pokemon, is it 252 EVs per stat per level to max out, or do you stop working after your FIRST 252 EVs in say, Attack, are obtained?

For extra clarification of my situation I'll use an example: I just caught (remember, gameshark) a Dragonite at level 1. Untouched, never battled, but I take it and have it fight 83 Dragonites (83 X 3Att EVs= 252 Att EV's). Do I have him (Dragonite) do this every level over the course of the 100 levels or do I stop having him fight Dragonites after his FIRST 83 encounters and battles with wild Dragonites. SO basically, is Dragonite fighting 83 other Dragonites and after this are his attack EVs totally maxed out, or should he be fighting 83 Dragonites every level especially in his later levels? I would be very gracious to finally have some clarification on this matter. Thanks for reading everyone!!!

He only needs to fight 83 Dragonites in his life time, not for each level! Each Pokémon can have a max of 510 EVs, with a maximum of 255 in each stat. This means your ideal EV distribution for stats should be similar to 252/252/10/0/0/0, giving only 2 EVs wasted (as 4 EVs = 1 stat point at level 99). The EVs span over a Pokémon's entire lifespan and are not a per-level thing. Hope that helps :D

    To add a few things:
In Generation 3 the maximum of EV's a stat can have isn't 252, but 255. As Squirrel said, in the end every four EV's on a stat give an addition of one to that stat, so 252 and 255 give the same effect. With 510 total EV's you can give two stats 252 EV's and another stat 4 EV's. The two other EV's have no point (but you need them if you want to obtain the Effort Ribbon in Slateport City).
