If Pokemon existed, would you let your 10 year old go on a Pokemon adventure?

  • Oh my...what a question...

In I was 10 I couldn't start that kind of travel...of course have a Pokemon as a friend and battle with him can be fantastic, in this age? Ash was in good situation - he met friends that whose helped him any time. It's right that Pokemon world is nearly utopian..no rape, murders, killers, but sometimes some pokemon burglars, evil teams...it all calculates...

I could go in that travel being at least 15-16..not earlier...

I would want them to at least finish high school. =/ But I guess that doesn't exist in the PokeWorld...
Still, as safe and friendly as that world seems, I wouldn't be able to let a 10 year old go off on their own. 10?! That's soooo young. 10 year old can't take care of themselves, even if they think they can.
I'd wait until they were at least 14 or 15, and still at that, I'd want to give them a stronger pokemon to watch over them as they started their journey.

Well, maybe not if my young lad is only 10, I would consider a more appropriate age like 14 or 15. By then, they would be physically and mentally mature to an extent, I suppose. And they've got pokemon, yes.

  • It would probably be prohibited until you're aged 15 or so. Which I think is an okay age. =)

But if pokémon were real, I doubt I'd even have kids! I mean why would you raise children if you can have pokémon?! :D

  • Of course, I wouldn't deprive them of an adventure, but not by themselves unsupervised. I'd probably go with them. And a couple friends could tag along too. It would be more fun with more people.

Then again, I don't really see myself as the type who would have kids in the first place.

  • That would depend on whether or not the world was so terrifyingly socialist, as well. If it was, then I might consider letting me 10 year old leave home and go and start enslaving Pokemon, although I doubt any 10 year old I raised would be mature enough to undertake such a journey, so the answer would probably still be no. S(he) can have a pet Pokemon and, depending on how well that is taken care of, I'll make my decision on their 16th birthday when they come of age.
...although there would be a condition to it regardless: he or she needs to catch me a shiny Spiritomb.

If it were in the Pokemon world, then yes, because it's typical there.

In the real world, no, I wouldn't have even let myself go when I was 10, and I wouldn't have wanted to. XD

IMO, the parents in the Pokemon world are crazy for letting little kids go on journeys like that. 4srs.

Sure, it'd be safer if you had Pokemon with you.. but really, they couldn't seriously protect you too well until their levels were fairly high.

  • Who said anything about ten-year-olds? I would train my underling from a young age and send him off to become a pokémon ruler like his father at seven, then return to serve me when he is worthy.

Holy poop no, lol. My ten year old is going to be the lame one that has to stay at home until they're 16 and then have to battle and lose to 10 year olds.

  • Totally. I would want them to have a adventure when they are young, so they could mature on the adventure all by themselves. and I wouldn't have to buy them Pokedolls all the damn time.

  • All my kids would be mindless battle drones by 10 years old.
    BAHAHA! LOL!

But if the world were like this one, with all of the murders, abductions, and the other horible things I wouldn't dare type here, I would be very hesitant to sent them off. Yeah, sure, they have a Pokemon, but how strong is it? And the criminal could also have Pokemon, twice as strong!

But in the Pokeverse, it is quite a natural thing to do, and the world seems to be very safe, so then yes, I would.

I've always thought about these kinds of things along the logic that Eivana describes above, but personally, I'd let them go when they're fifteen — they'll get Pokemon at ten, sure, but start their actual training careers later with a greater background understanding than some nifty kid that's only got his own experiences to gauge the world against.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I think it would be fine to give a child a Pokemon at 10, but not let them actually go off into the world and train till they are at least 15. If I'm not wrong the V generation's protagonists are 15 years old. Which is more towards appealing to older fans, but at the same time it seems a little more appropriate.

We all know that age isn't a big factor in the Pokemon world, right?

Ash has been on his Pokemon journey for around 14 years, if I'm right, and he's still 10 years old.

10 years could easily of been 15 for all we know.

Funny thing is, I started playing when I was 8 :O.

But, no, i wouldn't let any 10 year old do such a thing. They'd have to stick with the game.

  • Eh, probably not. Not unless they had a really strong Pokemon to protect them. I mean, they need SOMETHING to protect them from the giant bees with spikes for hands and the flying dragon/serpent/fish things.

  • OMG NO WAY! I think that's awful! Regardless of the dangers, who just let's their kid leave home at 10? You haven't even gone through puberty yet...you don't know anything except for being a kid. You don't leave home then. Good luck.

It's such a silly concept. I wish you could be a little older than that in the games, like 18, much like a University thing. You're done school and you're ready to go on a Pokémon adventure.

Plus, sorry, no world is perfect. There are defects out there...scary ones. It's called Team Rocket...!!! Have fun. If it was Jessie and James...well then I might not be so scared, haha.

Anyway, no! They would go to a Pokémon school for years until they set foot on some journey!
