I'm torn on what team to join!

    Instinct has pretty cool name, and so does their leader, Spark. Electricity is awesome. They seem to be the underdog which I like, but I also don't want to be stuck never getting bonuses from the gyms.

    Mystic appeals to me because blue is my favorite color, I'm and engineer and I tend to think things through, and I'm usually very level headed. If it was water instead of ice I'd probably have already gone with them since I was in the Navy. The name mystic isn't too appealing to me, however (I'm not very mystical).

    Valor also would work as I'm ex-military and their training philosophy is more in line with the military style. And I like that the focus is on training with your Pokemon and making them stronger. They certainly seem the most battle oriented.

    HELP! I need your suggestions.
     
    Good question! It seems bad to not suggest Instinct as they're so desperately needing the help but honestly I just don't feel like they're worth joining - especially not if you're only just starting as the Mystic/Valor player density will be useful for catching up. As for Mystic vs Valor, honestly both are about as good as each other in terms of strength and gym dominance - Mystic odes have a fair few more players but it tends to be the more 'serious' players on Valor so both teams have a lot of gym coverage around the world. The best suggestion would be to go with whichever team seems most popular in your area if you're looking for a free ride to catch up with people but otherwise I'd just go for your favourite legendary bird as there may well be events tied to your team when the legendaries are released. (Not at all confirmed but sounds like there's not much else to base it on right now haha)
     
    Haha, I have some friends playing but no one I'll see on a regular basis. I'm actually level 17, but I haven't spent any time near gyms to be able to fight so I haven't picked a team.

    I was never a pokemon player before this, so I don't know much about the legendary birds. I am really enjoying it, and when I play games, I play to win.

    You sound perfect for Team Valor then! Valor tends to have all the more serious players who care a lot more about being strong and taking over gyms so I feel like you'd be in a good crowd there. Or if you're really competitive then Instinct could be a good fit as you'll have a lot of gyms to take down and get EXP for!

    Although to be completely honest with you, I'm pretty much going to agree with what's already been said. It really only matters if you have friends who you plan on playing with - that way you could take down gyms together and profit on the spoils. Since that's not the case for you, it's just a matter of opinion. I don't think most people actually take the team descriptions to heart, as much as they pretend to; you don't have to agree with Valor's raison d'etre to be part of Team Valor. Whichever you choose, it will eventually come with team spirit. Just like sports.

    Honestly, I just like Moltres. That's why I'm Team Valor... haha.
     
    Please take the following in the spirit its meant, all teams are cool, however;

    Join Valor if you're anxious to battle and measure various body parts against other players.

    Join Mystic if you're a geek and want to be the smartest kid on the block

    Join Instinct if you're a very special snowflake who doesn't want to run with the crowd.

    ;-)

    Now the more serious reply, join the team that you have a good expectation for playing with friends with that way you can control gyms together and really explore that part of the game. Having said that I know no one out here that plays the game and I'm enjoying it just fine on my own.

    But no, I echo most of what other people have said already--who you want to play the game with should be the biggest impact on your decision. But it sounds like, for you, that's not as much of a factor. So I dunno man, choose your favorite color. Or if you really are wanting to be "in it to win it" then I'd suggest either going ultra-competitive with Instinct to try to boost their footprint, or joining Valor and trying to take down the ever-popular Mystic.
     
    I would normally advise you to join the team that the most of your friends/family are on, but since you already said you don't know many folks that play, then it really doesn't matter. i was the first of my friends to choose and I picked Valour because red is my favourite colour. I literally gave it no more though than that. Now the one person I'm close too who started playing says she's going to join the blue team because blue is her favourite colour, even though we won't be able to take gyms together :(

    You seem to be misinformed.

    Team Instinct's emblem is the only one that is symmetrical.
    Team Instinct's emblem is a golden triangle.
    Team Instinct's emblem features Battery Jesus.

    Yep god knows I didn't even read the text and just went for the coolest logo/mascot :D

    Did you end up choosing yet Grokus? I'm curious who you listened to most - and hoping there's another Mystic member in town to help us take down Valor and Instinct!
     
    I wouldn't use the fact that team instinct has less players as making it harder to get gym bonuses. I have no trouble getting gym bonuses, and the fact that there are more gyms to take over means more XP. The battles massively favour the attacker, so taking a gym is always easy, and keeping it for a while will be difficult. I've seen gyms with vampire and cp 800 or so Hypnos, level 5 gyms, get taken down by one level 12 player.

    I'd definitely choose instinct if I were you :) reason: it's the best. Also zapdos is cool.

    Honestly tho, ask your friends what team they're on, then join that team (or another team to annoy them XD)

    Personally, I went for my favourite legendary bird. I also quite like the fact that instinct are the underdogs (and yesterday we had all 5 gyms I can see in my area, controlled by instinct).
     
    No, I still haven't picked a team yet, haha.

    But I'm leaning towards blue or yellow. I've noticed the gyms change fairly often near me, with Blue or Red dominating most of the time.

    I haven't had a whole lot of time to actually play between work and making an android app for Pokemon GO to keep the screen awake and an incubate mode to lock the screen and keep the game in the foreground.

    Stereotypical Instinct response: Team Instinct is the best team. We are sneaky, clever, and determined. We like to hold the gyms when no one expects us and we strike when other teams are unable to take gyms back. We travel from gym to gym individually and independently. Where Valor and Mystic travel in packs, Instinct is a collection of powerful lone wolves.

    Constructive and Helpful response: When I was asked to pick my team, I immediately picked my favorite color which is Yellow, and that was originally the only thought process I had when I picked Instinct. Since I noticed you mentioned that you don't really have many friends and family playing the game with you, I would recommend Instinct simply because most Instinct members are individuals that play the game independently of others. Valor and Mystic are teams that generally prefer to travel in groups and do large bodied raids. I'm not saying that you can't be Valor and Mystic and travel around d by yourself. It's just if you think you will be playing the game a lot by yourself, you might find yourself much more comfortable in joining a team that supports a more sentient play style.

    No matter what team you pick I won't hate... but Instinct is the best. :P
     
    I went ahead and joined blue. I decided they sounded like the Jedi Order of Pokemon.
