the main argument against many aspects of pop culture is how it can affect the individual. do you believe music or culture in general can influence someone? has music influenced you in any sort of way?

i think that what i listened to growing up definitely influenced my personality and attitude towards things. when i was littler i mainly listened to rap/pop and that's definitely influenced the way i present myself/dress currently irl. i dont think that the affect of pop culture/subject matter of popular songs is necessarily bad on a developing mind, and it can even result in a more well educated being in some circumstances.

I think it affected how I interacted with people inasmuch as it either gave me something to connect with other people over or put up a barrier to that. Like, as a kid I didn't know popular music at all and it meant that I couldn't talk with most other kids about music so that affected who I befriended.

Nowadays, I don't think it really has any impact on me.

Yeah I still get left out of a lot of conversations over music a little, but mainly films / television because my parents didn't let me watch a lot of stuff as I was growing up and whilst a majority of people seem to have either had Sky and/or been early adopters of broadband, I had 5 television channels until I was 13-ish and no internet until about the same time so a lot of things get referenced like Lost and the like and would immediately just tune out. I'm not exactly upset that I've never seen Saw though.

Everybody in my school listened to Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, NSync, and Usher. :) So I think that impacted how they acted. A lot of boys came to school with droopy pants, and they acted gangster. They listen to Eminem. I like the same music as them. They also were into Avril Lavigne, and The Spice Girls. :) I guess that shaped how everybody acted. Everybody waited til high school to start copying each other. I no longer do what's cool and hip. I like listening to Ariana Grande, and Celine Dion. :) I like a lot of good singers. I don't listen much when people complain. I don't let that bother me. ^_^
