Internet Predicted to Melt Down by Mid-day

Those DNS servers have the info about where you can connect to a computer. If your ISP's DNS can't find a site, it'll ask those for 'em. But if they're down, then no IP Address forwarding, hence, you cannot connect to other computers.

As a1337a said, to bring those powerfull machines down would be nearly impossible... that is unless you go to it and start throwing rocks at it... that might just work.

Hmmmm could we fix it if it does happen?

Yes. It's very fixable. It'll only take a few minutes till everything reboots. Pfft, bring down the internet. I'd love to see the day that happens.

Well if we can fix it whats their point in crashing it? *laugh* XD people these days...lol

im prepaired. i am updating windows, norton and getting a firewall. i have my website backed up and a m prepared for the worst!

I just saw the word "Paris" a few posts ago :(...Anyone touches my homeland and I will blow them up. One more time so blue doesn't have to say it again: NEXT THURSDAY.

If this is going to be something like 'Y2K' then wow......wow..

Most of this sounds way to ridiculous to even belive, i'd like to know how they would plan to crash the internet as the machines can withstand a whole LOT of attacks, I doubt that it will go down anytime soon.

They plan to make a new version of the kiddie virus. This group allready killed 89 people on thoese airplaines in Russia. Like I said some group was claimng to have put bombs on board and to have messed with the plaines guidence system.

Okay.
Lamens terms.
The only way to bring the internet to a grinding halt is to attack it's foundations directly. There's only one real foundation to the internet, and thats upon which the entire infrastructure relies on.
The Primary Domain Name Servers. I think there are...8 of them, at the moment.
Now, forget about 'hacking'. That is so 1980's. You want to kill a server in todays world, you basically send it so much data that it crashes. We call this a DoS (Denial of Service) or a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack.
Obviously, you need to have far more bandwidth on your end, than the target system.
For a site like Yahoo, or Google, or even Microsoft, this IS possible, with enough PC's.
But you have to remember, the Primary DNS Servers are made for the sole purpose of being hit with data around the clock. There's simply no way to DoS them into crashing.

Well I got this from a Russian newspaper:
"We don't know who is behind these statements" calling for attack, Kaspersky said in the statement on VirusList.com. He stressed that the trustworthiness of the digital call to arms could not be established. "It's not the first time the term 'electronic jihad' has been used. We've seen this before, with the focus being on sending racist emails, and defacing and hacking Israeli websites. Even it is a known fact that the leader of this group is a former member of T.A.N.S a russian E-extremist team there is a chance that this may all be false air. Given the reports of the Russian crash that went on this week and that this is the team behind it all threats must be met face on by the Russian gov."

SO, there is a chance that it may fall through, given that this new hackers group has a sub-section in all of the 13 big world countries. I wouldent put anything pass them. So if the full crash dosent happen I would expect sevreal servers to fail. From whatI heard TANS was the group that took down allmost half of Russia a few years ago.

A new version of the "kiddie virus" will not kill the internet.. if that were the case, somebody would have done that already.

Well, looks like our little doom's day is over. The people behind this was acutally a group of college students trying to prove " The ignorence of a mass reliate world that will have no where to run once it's saftey is gone." They have acutally been arrested. The oldest of them was only 23. So what? These the hippies of our world? Ignorence of our dependent on the net and mass information? Wow these kids were dumb. Then again look at all the trouble this caused in Russia all this week.

I suspected as much, it's usually a bunch of people that are around that age, coming with absurd reasons as to why they start these things in the first place.

Though if you think about it is kinda true. Without Millanet ( the world wide milltary internet) most defense forces would be scrwed since just about all of the armed forces weapons divisons is run by computer.

Then again, why would we need all of that stuff to defend ourselves against all of the different countries that might try to attack us, are we really THAT afraid of ourselves as to take it to the extreme?

You know if you guys had listened to me in the first place the fact that it's a hoax would have come as NO suprise to you.
