    Okay. So I have a 4th Generation 40GB iPod and it's totally broken. The only problem is that the hard drive speeds up like usual and a second later it slows down.

    Is there any way I can fix this?

    If you've had it less than a year or got the extended Applecare warrantee for it then I would definitely call up the tech support and see if they can do anything for you. If nothing else they may be able to get you a decent discount on a new iPod.

    If you're out of warrantee then I would suggest that you check out this page here at iFixit.com and see if you're up to the task of trying to replace the drive.

    Thanks for the info, Gerri.

    Crazy enough, it worked when I dropped it on the floor!
    Same thing happens with most pieces of technology.
    I always get the remote control to my TV to work by hitting it against the floor, and it magically works XD;;

    I do the same to my remote but I think that is to do with the batteries of it.
    I think that is only with portable devices, if I did that to my Computer or TV :O

    You performed the Whack method. the actual instructions tell you to hit the back of the iPod against the heel of your hand a couple times to 'Whack' it back to life, though be careful because if you whack it too many times it'll stay dead.
    anyway I remember that method, I used it a couple times On my old Photo iPod. (unfortunately I had a habit of keeping it in my back pocket and eventually the disc inside actually bent.)
