Is Brock really Black?

I always thought they just made Brock stereotypically asian. xD;
With the - - type eyes, and such.. that's what the creators said too.

The creators actually said something about it? Well if they actually did, that ends any debate right here. At any rate though, a citation would be nice if anyone can provide one.

Unfortunately, on this issue, there's a lot of wiggle room for debate, since there isn't a straight answer. The closest is from the Hidaka interview and "avoiding to be racist" with the injection of Kenji/Tracey, but he didn't elaborate on it further.

So, until it's answered, can only speculate. Otherwise, I would have already locked this thread. Heh.

I think he is a normal Japanese/Chinese/American (Depending on the series)

With Tanned Skin or Dark skin.

-Mexico made by Spain
-Spain conquered the past Philippines
-Mexican + Asian = Filipino?

That friend used to call himself a 'beaner asian', which is most likely where my thoughts first came from.
 
A friend of mine has been talking about the exact same thing.
brock looks too bronze to be African-american or white.
though, it would make sense if he was a stereotypical asian. because of the..nn-nevermind.
i, believe he is hispanic because his bronze skin shows it.
he seems like a normal person, and doesn't act like any other stereotype i've heard of.
but if thats out, he has got to be asian.
the anime series revolves around the pokemon regions, which revolve around real places in japan.
it only makes sense that he would be asian because i have never seen a non-japanese or white person in pokemon. but Pong08, don't assume that just because of many stereotypes(although i should shut up soon) because it hasn't been found out yet, which is why its up for debate. If he had creamy, white skin, would you think the same thing? Anyways, i think nintendo just made brock to avoid them looking like racists.
 
If you think about, none of the other characters on the show are really supposed to asian.. o_O None of them look it, and the Pokemon world isn't really Japan. (Then again, its not America or any place like that, either.. >> ) But the characters don't really seem to be asian, although all the races in the series turn out to be mostly stereo-typical.. thus, Brock appears to be a stereo-typical asian, as far as how they're drawn in certain series: with the tiny slit eyes, and dark skin.

My friend Yurii brought that to my attention back in '98, when I first started watching it, so that's just what I've always thought, I suppose.

Buuut, Brock is Brock regardless.. I don't really care what race he is. xD;
 
He probably comes from a mixed race of parents =/

I always figured Brock was a person with a deep tan since Japan isn't as ethnically diverse as The United States. Does it really matter?

I can not believe you just said that Pong08, Im not Mexican but that offended me, Im a mix of African American and Hawaiian(basically Asian) and I dont get a mixed vibe from Brock. I personally think hes just a naturally tanned asian. Its actually common but I hate the fact that there are no African Decent characters.

And YouNoob, not all blacks are that dark so it is possible. Blacks are actually the most diverse in variation of skintone and features so thats not valid.
 
it seems to me that brock's character design was built over an osakan tan (osaka: city in japan not as popular as tokyo though)
 
I would normally have just gone "Yes" and ended my post there, but having read some of the replies to this thread does make me wonder if he is, considering his relations that we see on the show not being particular black themselves such as his father.

I think a better question would be if he has eyes or not...:\ (they're always just lines o.O but that's another story really)
 
Ya know, I dont like this racial ignorance. You dont have to be African to be dark-skinned. There are many dark-skinned people from India, South American, Oceania and even Australia (Aboriginal). On one hentai site someone saw Hikari having sex with a darkskinned man and they were like OMG BLACK AFRICAN LOL.

I just think Brock is Mexican or from southern Asia.
 
I really wish a Mod would close this beacause alot of things people have said are offensive to not only African(African Americans) but Hispanics and Asians.

If you're talking about something I've said, I never meant to cause any offence at all and if I did let me know what I said that did offend, and well, I'll not repeat 'em.

(I did mention his eyes being lines, but that had nothing to do with race)
 
Thai is one of many things, I might be over reacting but I dont like it when people start talking about peoples differences you know. I think it would be best to close this.

Is a thread about his race important? It doesn't really matter. A good question would be, why is he still on the show(Don't answer)?
