Is it possible to get legitimately stuck in a Pokemon game?

I was thinking and wondered if there is any part in any of the Pokemon RPGs where the player could do something which would cause them to be stuck. Stuck meaning that it is impossible or highly improbable for one to progress further into the game. Trading is allowed. Has anyone found a way?

I brought this up in the Pokemon Showdown chat rooms and someone said that you can get trapped in the Tanoby Key strength puzzle in FR/LG. I've tried, but couldn't do it.

Catching a Magikarp below lv.15 (so that it hasn't learned Tackle) and releasing all other caught pokémon is a good way to piss off a friend whose cartridge you borrowed.

You're not stuck in the sense that you're speaking of, but there's really nothing you can do from that point on. XD

    Catch a new Pokemon?!

I heard there was a way to get stuck in the Mauville City Gym in R/S/E, but I haven't verified this or anything.

I remember getting stuck in the Pokemon Mansion in Cinnabar in Gen I. Perhaps I was just stupid and didn't know how to get out though. And I'd assume I'd be able to run around until I fainted. All I remember though is restarting my Red Version because I was stuck in the mansion.

In X/Y, do the same- but sell all your items and then spend all the money on clothes.

    -Magikarp that only knows Splash.
    -No Pokéballs.

An easier method that does not involve spending all your money.

Never pick up a rod - obtain a Finneon from a trade. Teach it Surf and go over to Master's island with it as your only Pokemon. Trade the Finneon for a Magikarp that is unable to learn Surf.
Because you have never picked up a rod you cannot find Pokeman that makes you faint in order to warp yourself to the next Pokemon Center.

I believe twitch plays pokemon had the potential issue in the first game that if they ran out of money they wouldn't be able to access the safari zone, bringing the game to an end.

Well, the money problem can be remedied by being traded a Meowth with Pay Day. I guess this is probably the sole reason for that move. In Gen 3 and later, Zigzagoon, Bidoof and friends have Pickup which can help.

There's a strength puzzle in the underwater cavern in R/S/E, which is similar to the Tanoby key. I wonder if you can get stuck there.

@Onicon Are you talking about the guy in Sinnoh who trades you the "German" Magikarp? Wouldn't you need Rock Climb to access that route, though? Haven't played it recently, but I do remember those walls.

Storyline-wise, there's no way of getting stuck; there's always a way to get around something. Though, if you like, you could get yourself stuck on your own; one of the methods would be what Timbjerr suggested. xD;; Personally, I was once stuck in Pokémon Ruby at Mauville city. Had no idea how to get Rock Smash, so, yeah, I just couldn't get past.
