To be fair, we learn more and gain experience as time goes by. That is why the games are easy nowadays. I believe Gym and Elite Four matches are meant to test our knowledge as Trainers, as in how much do we know about the type we're going against with.

He's right.

It's not due to mechanics being nerfed to make games easier, but rather the experience we have as players. We get smarter over time and as a result we're more used to the game and that's why we seem to think there's not much challenge compared to previously.
