Is Lucario still a very popular and important Pokemon?

Personally, Lucario is one of my favorites (hence the theme). I don't exactly stay up-to-date on the movies and anime, but I never did see it as being particularly "important" in the franchise. Though it did appear as one of the main characters in a movie, if I remember correctly.
As for the Pokemon's performance in battle, I find it to be irritating that its Sp Attack is higher, while few of its moves on Gen IV are both Special and powerful.

It's an overrated, overhyped piece of scum that only got popular because of the disgusting subculture known as "Furries". I mean, it looks okay, but the furries make it seem like it's God. Which it isn't.

I had to Google what a "furry" was cause I didn't know. Just a fanboy of a semi-human animal I guess..

OT: I think they were trying to hint at Lucario being pretty important before 4th Gen even came out. Isn't the last rank in the first PMD games the "Lucario rank"? He was mentioned before I even knew what a Lucario was. Same with Bonsly I think.

Personally, I feel like Lucario is one of the signature Pokemon in Gen 4. For me he's definitely another mascot of the series, and so much cooler than Pikachu at that :P His typing and moveset is amazing, and he's a valuable member of my Diamond run through :)

Not to mention the Anubis thing. that's pretty cool too :) In spite of that my Riolu was nicknamed Scrappy, cuz he's a dog that fights............

Da da da da da da, P-p-p-p-puppy power....

I never thought about it before but yeah I suppose he is an important character for 4th Gen. He was in the demo showing off two new moves, being Force Palm and Bone Rush (Throw?), he was in Brawl, starred in his own movie and is a gift pokemon in 4th Gen being the only way he can be obtained....But I've never really seen his importance or why GF put so much hype about him. Still he can be considered important on a marketing perspective as he can be thrown on any merchandising....erm....stuff, and sell pretty well. He's just iconic the same way that Jigglypuff was in Gen 1. that's to say she was a recurring joke in the Anime and it was just adorably cute so they can slap her face on a plushie and make a profit because kids recognize it as Pokemon. Also, a beast in Brawl

Yeah... I pretty much did the same.
Dunno if people who like Lucario actually know about "Furries"...

It's because of the movie and the fact it was one of the first Pokémon from 4th gen revealed to the public.

It may also have something to do with it being pretty powerful and good-looking, though...

Guys I'm not trying to figure out why people like Lucario. :x I'm trying to know of his and his popularity's importance in marketing, and his relevance in the media.

Lucario is practically that Pokemon to represent gen 4 (one of the cases why it looks a little bit human). Since we are moving to gen 6 it's rather clear that it's heading right into forgotteness. It's pretty much the same with this new form of Mewtwo.
I'm not sure about that. Zoroark was supposed to be the Lucario for gen 5 but Lucario ended up doing exactly just that. :x No other Pokemon has represented or was used for marketing for two consecutive generations except for Pikachu.

I'm actually not sure if Lucario was made to be the 4th gen mascot Pokemon, or if it became iconic.

Part of me thinks that Lucario's raise in fame and subsequent importance in marketing is coincidental though, if in fact there was no intention of it being a mascot prior to it's release. They created a Pokemon which was emblematic of what (some) fans wanted to see, which is a pokemon with humanoid characteristics and speech, supernatural aura-based powers, and a good combination of back story and looks. Lucario served a conduit between the human and Pokemon world, to a certain extent. That right there makes it a valuable tool, because it's easy to relate to. People can empathize with Lucario and how it's been represented. So it would almost be foolish on GF's part to not use it to market future events because it's pretty much a guaranteed sell.
