5th Gen Item Ideas

Hmm...you guys have some really good ideas. I think this should be implemented:

Smart Ball: A Pokeball that increases the chance of catching the Pokemon if the Pokemon has a status (Sleep, Poison, Paralysis, etc.) and has a higher health.
 
I wouldn't mind an item that could be given to eggs to make them hatch faster. Something like the equivalent to having a Slugma in your party. Even better would be a key item that affected all your eggs.
I like this. It'd be convenient when I want to hold five eggs and something with fly. Like an egg container or like a heating lamp.

Clipper: Replaces need for HM Cut.
Icarus Wings: Replaces need for HM Fly.
Surf Board: Replaces need for HM Surf. (Make Surf a TM or level up move instead so no fans cry about it... <.<)
Power Gloves: Replaces need for HM Strength. (Same as Surf)
Paper Fan: Replaces need for HM Defog.
???: Replaces need for HM Whirlpool.
Drill: Replaces need for HM Rock Smash.
Grapple Hook: Replaces need for HM Waterfall and HM Rock Climb.

They could also replace some HM requirements altogether and make different ones... But with items as well...

I wish. So bad. Maybe not all of them, maybe just some like the flash being replaced by a flashlight or the clipper/machete for cut or a rope for rock climb. Things that would be realistic for any traveler to have.
 
me too, but what would happen to the moves?
how about:
TM81: fly
TM82: water charge (water fall)
TM83: tidal wave (surf)
TM84: rock climb
TM85: rock smash (now with 60 base power)
TM86: strength (can cause flinch)
TM87: slash (instead of cut)

and defog doesnt deserve a tm because it sucks so bad.

Yeah, that could work. Though keep the names the same. Kind of like how pokemon can still have Dive in Gen IV, but it is only a move.

Still, giving one or two innate field abilities to a pokemon would still make you mix and match your party in order to overcome obstacles, but it would remove the need for an HM Slave.

As for the Exp. Steal, that's the best idea I've heard yet on this thread! I'd use it every day.

I don't know, would someone tell me how this "Exp. Steal" would be useful in any manner? I'm unable to picture the scenario and can't quite grasp how the item would work.

In case you're trying to train only one pokemon but it's too weak for normal battles, so no pokemon would take the experience in that terrible trade known as sharing. It would also be useful for gaining EVs, but that's considering it would take everything and not just the experience.
 
How about...
Exp. Steal-Instead of sharing Exp. With the pokemon holding Exp. Share, the pokemon holding this item gets all the Exp and none goes to the one fighting for it.

Idk... it sucks...

The return of Gen 1's EXP. ALL as a hold item would be awesome.

A key item for increasing hatch chance at a shiny. Like egg paint or something.

I want color related hold items so I can have a pink Rhyhorn or a blue Pikachu.

The Masuda method already drastically increases your chances of getting a shiny hatch, so I think something like egg paint would just be unnecessary.

It would be useful, but it's a stupid idea to have it in the game. Training Pokemon is supposed to be a challenge in itself. Not a walk in the park. People just want these games to be too easy.

When I came to this thread I expected to see some fresh ideas. I've seen some, but I've also seen a bunch of people saying things like "Replace HMs with Surfboards and Power Gloves!!11!1" and "Pokeballs that give even more chance of catching the Pokemon than Ultra Balls!!11!1!1" These are terrible ideas that are totally unneeded.

I do think it'd be cool to have a new Potion that fits somewhere between the Super Potion and the Hyper Potion that restores 100HP. The jump from 50 to 200 seems quite big to me.
 
They could at least do what they did in Rangers and let the Pokemon use special moves (HMs) without knowing them

Yeah but... that's something I only think we'll see in spinoffs. Within the main game? I dunno, Pokemon doesn't really need to make too many drastic changes, and besides, that'd mean no more HM slaves - one extra party member, and four slots for moves of the users choice. That would allow for more variety, but it might make the challenge easier, or harder, depending on the individual trainer. Dunno if Pokemon is ready for that change.

like you have a level 1 charmander you wanna raise fast, so you beat one of reds pkmn while the charmander has it, and gets raised by like 50 levels. that would be a pain in the ass amount of time.
 
how about a berry that lets the user go first the first turn of a match. kinda useful i guess, and since it only works the first turn of the match it'll prevent overuse. also maybe a berry that cuts all stats, but raises all stats in a pinch.

If by 'many' you mean you and by 'for a long ass time' you mean never.

Bad idea is bad. HMs are a cool concept anyway.

I think that make a special food for pokemon would be great. Also if you don't feed your pokemons they go to battle with some kind of status (hungry belly) and then they can't use all their potential to battle (maybe cut is PP at half or reduce the damage of the moves).
Also i'll love to see some kind item that help you to dress your pokemons not only for the contest, for the battles too. =)

that would either slow the game down too much, or just make it a drag.. i like the idea but the status problem is just too extreme, maybe it just decreases happiness.

No, by "many," I'm pretty sure he means over half of us, and by "a long ass time" he means since the HMs jumped from 5 to 8 per game. But you're right about a bad idea just being bad. Case in point: Defog, Waterfall, Whirlpool.

Also, I think there have been some interesting ideas thrown around in this thread. Instead of just hating, maybe you should suggest something? It would make you sound a bit more credible.

Edit: I mean something other than a new potion, which falls prey to the same lack of creativity you are criticizing others for.
