    Kimi's critque meh corner? =x=

    So as many of you may NOT know, I have been on Deviantart alot. Drawing and doodling my heart content...(And I still am..) I so I'm going to post up some of my pictures...>>;;;
    If you want to see ALL of my works online, go to my art page...=x=

    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    You all rmemeber my infamous evil twin, right? 8D well, I re drew her...and yes, my background is so freaking creative. ;A;

    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    This is my OC characters, Hana and Fuson. I'm trying to make my pictures more diverse and add poses and stuff, but the problem..(I lack serious motivation...) But so far I'm good at making waist up pictures rather quickly (it's the coloring that gets me....>.<)

    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    Another found hobby of mine is making my own screencaps (at which I fail miserably...|D) but I'm trying darn it!! OAO

    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    Traditional media...yes, it's my OC Hana...(If you feel like you're high right now because of the colors, it's perfectly NORMAL.)

    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    and finally, fan art. I rarely ever draw this though...I support my own OC's D;

    but that's just work I'll put on for now...
    From now on, I'll put new art work up, I swear =x= (unless people who visit my page demand me to put one up. O.O)

    Kimi! I love your art, it looks really good :3 My favotites are your evil twin and the one you did in color pencil, it looks awesome and the colors are so pretty and blend well together <3

    Keep it up!

    Thanks you guys!! 83
    anyway we recently had a cold front come through...and I never want to get out of bed with how cold it is...so I drew a picture because it is as what my art teachers say, "insperation."
    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    You have a wonderful way of drawing eyes. Keep up the good work!

    I like them, they're awesome, but some of them have strange body proportions and it doesn't look quite right. I like you're drawing style though, keep it coming! :D

    Yeah proportions were never my thing...(You should see my REALLY ealirlier pics..They were so disportional..'_')
    And thanks for the critque!

    and as for new work, I decided to try MS paint last night (snap, that sucker is hard!! D8)
    [PokeCommunity.com] It's mai art...deal with it =[

    any tips on how I can get this to look better? =x=

    the head looks a bit misplaced, as if it was copy&pasted there >< lol sorry, but I speak in honesty when I critique. So... your light point is a bit everywhere, choice of colors is bright, which is good, not gloomy at all, just the head would be okay to move back a little. ^^ otherwise, not bad.

    Yeah the head looked a little werid to me too...but that's because at first I was gonna make it older Hana and her neck was longer, so I had to shorten it...and by the time I decided to do younger Hana the line art was pretty much DONE! D'8
    I'm glad for your honesty though! 8)
    (Now I know who this romance hero is! 8O)

    My suggestions:
    • Stop trying to copy other anime styles. Your art becomes a mimicry of a mimicry until it's so diluted that it becomes an empty shell and all the reasons behind suggested detail are lost. Try some actual realistic stuff first before you try to exaggerate reality. Walk before you try to run.
    • The lighting is practically non-existent. Stop just using gradients and super-soft brushes so much. Your work ends up looking flat with no suggestion of form or volume.
    • Learn color theory. Stop using such high-contrast colors for everything. Learn when they're appropriate and when they are not. Understand lighting and color reflections. Learn that things are never just one hue. Learn why gray is beautiful and why it's the most useful color.
    • Read this tutorial. It'll help you with a lot of these problems. Make it your bible. Study it again and again.
    • When it comes to drawing, unless you feel like investing money into a graphic tablet or something, stick to traditional media. That way you can always just color stuff later in Photoshop or whatever.

    Alright, the first thing I'm going to say is thank you for the link.
    Now, please give me the time to talk to you as I have listened (or read) to your critque.

    1.Trust me pal, I'm not copying ANYONES style. If it ironically enough looks like some artist style, it's just by chance, I swear. I know this because when I first started off drawing, I WAS copying the artist style, even going as far as to get the eye detail as the artist themselves drew them. (you can check my DA page and look at my first work.) As for realistic work however, I am taking formal art classes at school. (We just haven't moved on to drawing people yet.)

    2. I'm well aware my artwork looks flat. I end up relying on blurring the background to make it look 3 dimensional. >.< So yes currently, I am trying to fix that.

    3.I'm very sorry to dissapoint you color wise, but I like my high contrast colors. I might tone the intensity of the color down in the future, but color contrast is just my personal taste.

    4.I thank you for the link yet again! 8)

    5.I use a havon tablet to color with..=I It might not be the best work done with a tablet, but trust me, it's defidently better from when I used a mouse. (besides, I ink most of my line art with real ink.)

    I hope this doesn't sound like it's brash of me, but yes, you have pointed out my value errors and such, but the fact remains that I while you might see it as a "sterotypical" art, it is also my personal style. Now while I don't mind changing it up a bit, (Trust me, I long to make a cool looking picture and not a cute one.)I'm not going to change my style of art completly. It just wouldn't be me.

    +- The finger looks horrible on the second one if that's what it is supposed to be
    +- Your people look uber flat and you need more shading
    +- Your eyes have more detail than the actual person which is a turn off because they don't look like they fit in

    It's not that you're copying one particular style. It's just that your art is some kind of amalgamation of perceived 'rules' of anime style that have been ingrained into your mind. The large, shiny eyes, the long necks, the undefined noses. You draw these things without fully understanding them, and you end up with an artistic Frankenstein (no offense). Anime usually mimics reality. You're mimicking mimicry.

    If you're truly interested in bettering yourself as an artist, as opposed to being a praise-seeking DeviantArt drone, you should be rejecting any notions that you have any sort of style. Style is just making the same mistakes over and over again until they're taken for truth. If you are actively trying to pursue a certain style, it's likely that you're hindering yourself as an artist, as you're basically saying "I want to be exactly this good and no better. Ever." If you're truly interested in becoming a better artist, you'll need to push boundaries and leave your comfort zone. Granted, it's not up to me to tell you what your interests are, so you'll have to make that decision on your own. I'm just saying. This will be a hard rut to break out of if you don't get started as soon as you can.

    We first of all, I want to thank Allstories and lycoris for the critque and advice. (Yes I have noticed the hands..O.O)
    So I've decided to take a break from big major art projects so that I can touch up on the things mentioned above. While it feels nice to be told my art is good, I know it can be better myself. So when I post art up, it's not to be told how cute it is, I want you to tell me what can be touch up on (Like Romance hero did with my MS paint picture. =X)
    So if you think it looks nice, say so, but if you find something wrong please let me know...As allstories says, there are people who are like, "I want to be this good and never any better." Well, on DA, all I have really are friends who tell me how cute it looks or how awesome it is, and that's just not what I'm REALLY seeking.
    So I'm glad I found it here.(because even the art teachers at school are to ingorant to even LOOK at it. 8()
    Anyway, on to the reason I'm posting here in the first place: I've decided to practice drawing hands first and for most. That and details in actual compositions (Like instead of making large triangle shaped bangs, I make strands of hair.)
    Hand sketches:

    And a pencil sketch of a picture

    Also, please note I used a magazine for drawing this. Some of the hands were VERY small, but I liked the pose so I tried to draw it.

    Well, I'll talk about your latest picture for crits, sound good Hakumei? |D

    1. Well, the first thing I notice is her head. It's kind of strangely unnatural for her head to be leaning that far over without her neck being affected as well.

    2. Her shoulders are far too... small? Short? xD I think you've mainly got proportional problems, from what I can tell.

    3. There's not THAT much a distance between her bust and her collar bones. xDD

    4. It might be the shoulders, but the arms do look weird. xD

    5. Her hand looks... awkward. xD I'd imagine it's because the fingers are all the same width until you reach the fingers, and hands aren't like that. |D

    6. The folds of her dress around the empire waist look good! 8D

    7. Her face is a little squished/She has a huge forehead. D|

    8. Her collar bones aren't very defined. xD

    9. Perspective, depending on how she's posed. I don't think she's supposed to be posed away, but from the drawing, I got that sort of vibe, that her body is turned away and her head is turned in the other direction. *shrug*

    It's always good to draw those lines on the head. They can be super light and stuff, and it'll work wonders. ^^

    And, I screwed up on the left arm/connection to to the shoulder/torso, so uh... ignore that. xD;

    Hope that was too pompous of me. xD;; Go ahead and critique my work until my butt falls off if you need to vent. *I personally don't take criticism all that well, so I always feel guilty after giving other people criticism... </3*

    Those hands look pretty good though. Some of them are somewhat boxy, but otherwise, for practice and compared to your old ones, they look really good. I personally have never liked drawing the wrinkles on hands, because the wrinkles are ugly to me, but it's just personal preference I suppose. xDD

    Actually, I loved the first one. And so many other artworks, but the screencaps bothered me the most, the backround isn't focused too well, and the nose of the one who is side-viwed, well...It's not too fancy :[
    But whatever the case, Great artwork, kimi! :]

    Thanks you for the help on the picture...(The head disturbed me a bit too, but I could get it to look right. 8(;;; )
    I'll re draw it soon, maybe tomorrow...or when ever I can have time..(School's back in session..D|) But trust me Muzuki, I want the critics. Not those pointless kinds, but people who actually know what they are talking about, (Or at least make it sound like it.)

    and yersh...side views kill me. I murder whoever I attempt to draw in a side view. 8(

    You're quite talented in sketching/drawing, it's the coloring that pretty horrid lol. Work on coloring.

    I don't think the coloring is horrid. It's actually a lot better then some things you see out there.

    I particularly like the way you color eyes. |D I love the sparkly effect, since I've never managed to get it down myself and stick to flat colored eyes for a sharper look. *Fish'd*

    so all I have to do when coloring is add detail to the rest of the person (such as the hair) and keep the eyes....
    pencil sketchs are anatomy problems (along with perspective)
    and cleaner lines with inking, right? =x

    Edit: Okay, I drew this but something about her arm bothers me...I couldn't get it right though. 8( also, it's a bit more zoomed in from it's last one. I broaded the shoulders and tried to follow Mizuki's advice but I think I only got the head right...>>;;;
