Which one is more important and which one affects pokemon's overall power more?
If i have let's say 2 dragonites and both of them have same cp but one's iv is higher and the other's moveset is better, which one would win the battle and which one is more ideal to spend your stardust to power up?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

What I have heard is that moveset is more important. IV can account for up to 10% (I think this is right, someone confirm) difference in power. But movesets can vary a great deal. For a detailed explanation of the math, I am as eager as you are... but my input based on what I've heard and seen.

I think it depends largely on what the difference is in each. Some Pokémon will have moves which have similar levels of power for it or some will have moves which will be drastically different (usually typings come into this too, both with Same Type Attack Bonus and with super effective multipliers), whereas IVs have a set effect each time. As long as you have a decent situation for both then you should be fine as even a terrible IV/moveset Pokémon can win gym battles with the right tactics, but I think moves generally have more potential to make an impact.

Right now i'm trying to find a happy medium; a Pokemon with passable moves and solid IVs, though it's proving difficult. The vast majority of my Pokemon have awful IVs, and the few I have with potential don't have good movesets.

I'm praying that things will improve once i've ground myself up to a decent level.

While doing a research on internet i've also encountered that the majority says moveset is more important but frankly it doesn't make much sense when you think rationally: So moveset has more effect on attack/dps but it doesn't have any effect on defense and stamina. But isn't the one that has more IV should be more valuable because although it doesn't raise the dps as much as moveset does it increases attack eventually plus it also increases the defence and stamina values which moves have no effect on them at all.

    Moveset is more important.

Since it's unlikely you'll have to decide between a 100% and 0% Pokémon, the difference in CP will unlikely be 10%. Considering many moves have drastically varying DPS output, that's what you'd want to focus on.

Then again, it looks like Niantic is actively rebalancing things, so everything is subject to change.

Exactly. And just to clarify for everyone because I think Jae had a typo...

Jae means that most of the time when you're comparing IV's it's not a 0% to 100% perfection rating. So most of the time you may only be seeing a 5% uptick by selecting a better IV pokemon. That's compared to getting a Water attack like Hydro Pump...
