4th Gen IVs and Breeding, A question :)

    first post, weeeeee. hello.

    ok guys. I think I got all this down.. I just kinda want some confirmation. As none of us wants to waste precious hours of training.

    So here's what's up..

    I got a Lucario, it's a pretty decent one, I think.

    I've been training it up because I figured I needed a male one with the right moves so I can pass the moves down to the babies. I've been taking it one step at a time as not to overwhelm myself.

    My curiosity gets the best of me and I went to the Stat Judge in the Battle Tower after reading my Lucario "likes to thrash about".

    He tells me that my pokemon have "above average" potential (90-120)

    However, he tells me that the HP, Attack and Sp. Def "can't be better"

    So I'm looking at a male with 31/31/x/x/31/x.... x's being very poor obviously because of my above average potential.

    Here's my question: Do I need to find a female (or a ditto) with x/x/30-31/30-31/x/30-31 to breed with my male? Is that the best way to get a baby Riolu with "outstanding potential"??

    it's too bad the other stats are low.. because it's also Adament :(
     
    You can only successfully pass down two IVs, and if you want to keep the nature, that becomes one IV. The others won't pass; they're random. You need the EV-training items to successfully pass down the IV you want.

    Hopefully a mod can move it so I don't have to make a new thread? :)

    I thought three traits were passed down from the parents?
     
    I think I'll close and just link you to a terribly in-depth breeding guide which has a lot about passing down IVs/natures and all that jazz which should answer any questions you have on breeding instead... If you still have some questions though use the Help thread here or in D/P/Pt's section I suppose, as that'll fit there and here (but not as a new thread). =P
