First time i started watching TTGL i didn't really like but 2nd try it was pretty special. It was all about the mad characters (design and personality), "LOLWTFJUSTHAPPENED" seizure inducing action and a pretty damn awesome musical score.
What would you rate it? Does it have a good plot?:o

After watching Gundam, it made me dislike any mecha anime :/

Never seen TTGL :o
It should be required viewing for any anime fan to have seen Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in my opinion. It's just too famous not to miss out, and there are many elements in the story that would endear even non-fans of mecha (I should know; I didn't really like mecha when I watched it). What Gundam did you watch, by the way?

Plot: Rebellion against the forces that restrict us/Coming of age
Rating: 10/10.

I don't remember, it was on ScyFy tho o.o

Are you only saying I'll like it because its ecchi? Are you maybe hinting I'm a perv? >:O jk XD

yes

Why not try "year"? Star Driver is pretty much this year's only mecha series. :V
What is with this lack of Super Robot Taisen being mentioned D: Not only is it mecha, but it's JAM PROJECT. But indeed, it is disappointing how little mecha there was this year. The closet we got was Gundam Unicorn, in which ep 2 doesn't come out til November

YOU'RE A BULLY! *runs away crying*

Unicorn? They're coming up with some pretty weird names now....

From what I recall people saying, it's a continuation of the original UC system gundams. I'm not watching it yet due to me having not watched any of the UC Gundams, which I have to get to sometime.

Wait, how many seasons of Gundam are there?
Gundam 00 (or s/t like that)
Mobile Suit Gundam
UC Gundams
Horses with horns Unicorn Gundam

AM I missing any?

"It should be required viewing for any anime fan" - What others would you guys say fit this?

>Name any anime
>They'll probably watch it

BOKU NO- *shot*

I dunno what else to choose. If I had to choose, it'd be mainstream stuff like Haruhi, Evangelion, Code Geass, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Lucky Star, I guess.

wow, I wasn't expecting that to come out here XD

It really depends on the genre you're into. Evangelion and Akira are generally considered a staples for old-school fans. Same goes for a lot of the Miyazaki ones. Dragonball for the 90s generation, TTGL for the newer generation since there's a nice chunk of memes spliced from that.

Oh, though I would say Princess Tutu is a series everyone needs to watch at some point.

Wow, thats one anime series I'm not going to watch :/

heh, I need to go watch it at some point being a mecha fan and all. The main thing about gundam is that there's different timelines, so series like 00 is standalone, same for the SEED series, Wing, and G Gundam

EDIT: Here's probably my general list of things you should watch. They're a bit skewed due to recency, how often they're mentioned around me, memory problems, and more, but for each one, this is generally a list I'd recommend off the bat. [Shounen's a bit weird to choose due to the determination of Shounen, but nyeh]
Shounen: Kamen Rider Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Dragonball
Shoujo/Romance: Kimi ni Todoke, Clannad + After Story
Sci-Fi: Dennou Coil, Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Mecha: Giant Robo, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Fantasy: Record of Lodoss Wars, Utawarerumono
Slice of Life: Aria, Kobato
Comedy: Strawberry Marshmallow, Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight
Mahou Shoujo: Cardcaptor Sakura, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha + A's
Sports[Baseball]: Cross Game, Ookiku Furikabutte
Movies: Miyazaki Films, Makoto Shinkai Films, Summer Wars, Akira, Galaxy Express 999
Other: Princess Tutu, Angel Beats, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Valkyria Chronicles

Just finished Rozen Maiden desu~. Fairly entertaining series although it hasn't left me wanting to get straight on with the second season desu~. Is it weird of me that i was hoping for a boy x doll romance towards the end? desu~

well, a lot of the stuff i threw up there are either old or stuff not enough people have seen, since that's in my personality XD

Record of Lodoss War is still a fresh watch for me, but at the same time, it was based of the author's D&D campaign, so it's kind of awesome in that respect XD

You are a fool for depriving yourself of some quality mecha anime, just as you are a fool for rating bloody Naruto higher than Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG, the first seasons of Code Geass and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Hell, rating even Bleach higher than any of those shows is a sign of questionable judgment on your part.

At the very least, watch the original, Zeta Gundam, G Gundam, and the first season of Gundam 00. I thought Gundam SEED was decent, but your mileage can and will vary on that one. At any rate, make sure to avoid Gundam SEED Destiny and the second season of Gundam 00 like the plague.

Oi Oi, insulting one's preferences isn't exactly the way to go about recommending anime ^^;;

I personally wouldn't recommend watching SEED or 00 for the sake of being curious of what the next one will bring. Though if you're short on time, I would watch the 3 Movies/OVAs for the UC gen. I forget how far they get with them. And G gundam XD

There were three movies for original Gundam and another three for Zeta. There's also Char's Counterattack and F91, both of which I've yet to see. As for OVAs, there's 08th MS Team, 0080: War in the Pocket, and 0083: Stardust Memory; I've only seen part of 08th MS Team, though.

The numbers on the OVAs pretty much tell which order they go in chronologically. Gundam 08th MS Team was promised to me as apparently being one of the best OVAs ever, though I found it quite hackneyed in terms of story and characters. I saw the 3 compilation movies for the original Gundam series but I still need to watch Zeta - I'm debating myself whether to just watch it online or buy it on HD, depending on what the cost is...or if I can even find it.

Also, Gundam Unicorn was fantastic. That is all.
