...Ew. I had that problem as well. It was horrible.
What I did was restart the game. Then, I eventually got to the end and I beat him. 8D

Chrono Trigger is such a cool game. Chrono Cross was okay, but I didn't like it as much. It had some nice cut-scenes though.
