    Well,I have noticed when I first watched the japanese epps of AG(And yes even Kanto)It has a different feel to it. The Dialogue makes more sense,and not to mention the voice actors are better imo(Come on Matsumoto Rika owns as Satoshi). She makes Satoshi more mature than Ash,but also more wierder. Here's a comparison I have between the 2

    Ash = Dumb and At a loss of personality

    Satoshi = Wierd and Witty

    See,you just can't compare this stuff,The Japanese will get the nod,always.
     
    I'm not an anime purist (for one thing, I don't know Japanese, another thing, I prefer dubbing to subbing) so I suppose I don't really care about the minute details between the japanese and american versions. I've never seen a problem with Ash or anyone else on the show...I've always liked his raspy voice, and I don't see how much more witty he could be in the japanese version unless he constantly quotes Shakespeare or Socrates or something...I actually think that Ash is smart. The age of Ash-haters is long gone for the most part, as most people who pay any attention to the anime have realized the intricacies of Ash's personality, and respect him for it. I seriously don't think the american version is as bad as some people say. I'm quite pleased with the job they've been doing for years and years.
     
    I like both versions. But I do prefer the Japanese version more.
    It just flows better. The dialouge, the music, the way they act, it flows more smoothly.
     
    It's much easier to criticize than compliment, though. I don't see the point in trying to pick the show apart, pointing out things that would be considered major flaws to the few purists out there, always making it sound like it's the worst thing on television. To anyone else, the aforementioned issues would seem very minor or not problematic at all, and I see it as such. I give the people who make the american version of pokemon all the credit in the world?not only do the voice actors make voices that are very suitable to the characters, but the overall dubbing is just the way it should be. It?s supposed to be juvenile, they market it to children after all, and I don?t mind. The characters don?t need to sound overly intelligent for the show to be entertaining, I?ve never cared about that. And as for the music, I don?t mind when they play it; they always choose the piece that best fits the scene. I just don?t understand all this hatred toward dubbing?99.9% of us don?t have the luxury to constantly download original or subbed versions of episodes and scrutinize them, and, as I said, very, very few of us know Japanese, so dubbing is a necessity, and they do a great job. But all this complaining is making a big issue out of nothing, in my opinion. If one feels leeter or something for watching subbed anime, I don?t care about that, but it?s useless to try and make anything else sound like crap.
     
    Eh, I'm a sub-fanboy, so I'm always biased against dubs of ANYTHING... but I do think Pokemon is one of 4kids' better dubs (cheers to them for actually leaving some of the original music unchanged, even if it's only because a lot of it was music from the games). As bad as the dub is, it could be a lot worse *coughs in the direction of FUNimation*.
     
    Eh. All I know is the dubs, so? I probably wouldn't like the Japanese versions as much as the dubs, simply because I'm used to them.
     
    just dont forget every character in the series in different countrys has different personalitys then the U.S. :-P I learned that from the character voiceover for Meowth from i believe ...Pokemon III: Legend of the Unknown? In the Special Features hehe.
     
    I think the Japanese just have a different way of storytelling than Americans (etc.) do. That's why Japanese animes are so different from Disney movies, or American cartoons. What's entertaining to Japanese audiences might not necessarily be entertaining to audiences from other countries. I think when 4Kids dubs Pokemon, they tailor it to suit the audience they're aiming the program at. I'm not sure if 4Kids realizes that many Pokemon fans are 15+. Because of that, the violence is edited, more happy music is added, and dialogue is rewritten to be funnier.

    I do agree that the Japanese version is more serious and it makes more of an impact in some aspects. I think that's due to alot to the way the Japanese seiyuu's portray the characters. Anime is taken so much more seriously in Japan than it is here. Yes, there are many anime fans here, but still anime isn't as widely accepted as regular movies are. In that respect, I don't think the voice actors here realize the shoes they're filling, if you get what I mean.

    I enjoy both the Japanese and English versions. I grew up with the English version, so I will always have a place in my heart for it. Yet sometimes when I watch the Japanese version of an episode first and I see the American dub second, I'm usually disappointed a bit. Ok, my tagent is over. Haha.
     
    I like both versions but I prefer Japanese version. Well i understand what they are saying more than english and voice actors are better. Since I have grown up with Jap version and watched few english version, I can't compare it.

    Rather old but I'd like to point out that the ONLY anime on FUNi's part that really got the royal shaft were DBZ and DBGT. o_O DB and every other anime they've dubbed kept its original music. 4Kids only keeps very little nowadays for Pok?mon, even some game tracks are replaced (we have yet to hear Lavender Town's theme in the dub o_O). 4Kids is ALOT worse than FUNimation. FUNi's improving greatly and actually listening to their fans (they have someone over at the Adult Swim message boards taking questions and suggestions). 4Kids just improvises and thinks what kids like when they haven't a clue.

    That's why YGO's dub is so bad. Along with Shaman King and One Piece. :\
     
    The Japanese Verson has game music (sometumes) which is nice, but 4kids ruins it with it's own horrible anime music. >_>
     
    I've believe that once 4Kids explained that they need to pay for every part of music they use from the original. I don't know if this is true, but at some point it makes some sence. Why would someone dub Meganium voice for example if it's name is the same in Japanese and English?
    The only problem is that is doesn't make any sence if you look at the sixth movie. Every piece of music was kept intact. Not that I don't like it, in fact it's great that they kept every piece of music in. Or did 4Kids bought all the music and only have enough money left for a DVD and VHS release?

    Anyway, I too perfer a subbed version because with a subbed version you'll have minimum loss.

    When you think about it, though, Pokemon's probably the highest regarded show on 4Kids list. If you've seen anything else done by them, there's no hint of original music, vast cuts for no apparent reason, and the stories tend to stray from the originals. This could be that 4Kids was working (honestly) with Pokemon before they became popular (and corrupted).

    Otherwise, the only things I've seen in Japanese are the openings and most of the endings, and then you can include movie trailers if that counts.
     
    Yes, they do have to pay for the music and they DO buy the entire thing when it comes to getting episodes to dub. 4Kids has no excuse to not be able to play them. Pok?mon's their highest rated show and they make ALOT of money from it, they CAN afford the music for a 25 minute show if they can afford the whole track AND make an additional English song for the sixth movie.
     
    The Japanese version rules, of course. There is only ONE anime out of millions in which the dub is as good as the Japanese version, Cowboy Bebop. But yeah, the 4 Kids dub is lacky, childish, etc. I know the show is for a younger audience in all countries, but the dub abuses that fact. I love the original because it also sports great music (including some in the games, remade, of course).

    If you had a choice between both versions, I'd recommend the Japanese. Yeah sure, most eps aren't subbed, and it's hard to understand, but does it really matter? :)

    Can't forget Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin (uncut version that is). :P

    And really, you don't even need subtitles to understand what the hell's going on in a Pocket Monsters episode. o_O It's not like anything you can't figure out in the games is being explained in any episodes.
