Jesse, James, and Meowth

Sorry guys, but I'd be sad to see TR go. I don't see them as antagonists anymore, and I don't think that's their purpose anymore either. I really enjoyed the episodes recently focusing on them, especially the eps where James and Jessie had to give up Cacnea and Dustox, respectively. And I think we're in for some interesting things now that Jessie won a contest. I see them as much as main characters as Ash, Dawn, and Brock.

You know what would be the best way to develop their characters?

Have them catch more bloody Pokemon. As of right now in the Japanese anime, they have 6, if you count Meowth. Between two Trainers, that's fackin' PATHETIC.

Especially when you take into account that Wobbuffet and Mime Jr. do nothing, and Carnivine is rather useless.

Spoiler:

I was frankly quite happy to see Jesse actually attempt something serious in Contests. I was even more happy when she actually won the one in Solaceon, because, for once, TR accomplished something. XD

I know they're comic relief characters, but for once, can they please...not fail? :S

I disagree with the general consensus on here.

I love Team Rocket. They're an integral part of the anime in the same vein as Ash and Pikachu are. The show wouldn't be pokemon without them and would just collapse. You'd have to do a Yu-Gi-Oh GX type of spin off to have a Pokemon anime show without Team Rocket.

Yes they are repetetive, but so's the whole show. In fact the shows been repetetive for gawd long now. Ash tries to win eight badges to compete in a league, each episode they meet someone with a pokemon, befriend them, help them out, save their pokemon against Team Rocket etc etc. Therefore I think it's unfair to use the whole repetetive arguement as a reason for hatred against them.

Replace Jesse and James with Butch and Cassidy. They do so much more than the former.

Meowth should join them, or beg them to let him join them. He's the one who always wants to make "the Boss" happy.

I never cared for them but the show needs a bad guy XD

I am in total agreement my friend and I wish they would introduce Team Galactic more and throw the Rockets away. Plus if you watch the episodes closely. The rocket trio should have been fired from the rockets a looooooong time ago.

I agree with yossarian on this matter and do have a rebuttal for this thread of discussion. Jessie, James, and Meowth, despite their banal demeanor, have aged better than either Brock or Misty have by a length, and better than most characters in the series have to me. At least they haven't totally outlived their usefulness and become a complete shell of their former selves. And at least the trio still manages to be entertaining and humorous, especially when it comes to the latter with Wobbuffet (in my opinion).

They're vigilantes yet they're not and there's a very human quality to them that makes their comedic villain role work rather well. Given that they've been on their own and obstinately working and remunerating (or at least attempting to with all their failures) for a diabolical organization whose schemes rather ring of epic animosity, I think many of us would react similarly. They're not just black and white characters. They care for their Pokémon yet they steal Pokémon, which is an interesting dynamic. And while their "plans" may seem rudimentary and embarassing, it's quite human to want to just do and feel simple things at leisure. And in a way, I'm glad they don't succeed - just being that darn good and that "impeccable" is not human. I know this is a children's anime (or at least, that age group is who it's aimed for - but I'll contest that by saying age is not reflective of interests that often), but still.

They may not be the brightest or most novel trio but I think they contribute a lot more than most characters. They, like Ash and Pikachu, have and may forever represent the show. It's like replacing Ash and Pikachu now that I mention such - it just wouldn't be taken well to for a large part.

I've, recently, just learned to appreciate them. They've been around just as long as Misty and Ash, and Brock (which was the original trio). I like them, and I honestly think that Pokemon would be weird without them.

And I find them to be somewhat entertaining most of the time. I have this feeling, that somewhere in the future Jesse, James, and Meowth are gonna be different. Totally different from the way they are now.

I don't care hugely for Jesse and meowth, tbh, but James is an awesome character. He's actually had some character development, and he's just soooooo AWESOME!
Agreed

James is really cool :P

But Jesse is too over dramatic about herself and meowths voice is annoying.

But James is cool and has some cool pokemon, compared too jesse's usual Bug types.

I also like Jesse's Wobbafett!

James is a great character. Unlike Jessie and Meowth, his personality has remained intact over the years. I think a lot of it has to do with his upbringing. He had a bad childhood, but he was still given some luxuries. Jessie and Meowth both grew up in poverty. Coupling that with all of their failures, it is no wonder they are now bordering on being nucking futs.

That is not to say I dislike Jessie and Meowth. I do like them and understand why they have drifted off into the poor psychological states they are currently in. However, I do miss the good old days in which Jessie was just an authoritative and short-tempered ***** instead of being near psychotic and Meowth was a smart aleck who made numerous wise-cracks instead of being an obsessive chaser for Giovanni (all he ever seems to do now is fantasize about him).

I have never liked Wobuffet. Most of the time, it is annoying and useless.

Jimmy Zoppi's Meowth is annoying. However, Maddie Blaustein's Meowth was fantastic. She did an excellent job playing him.

to me James and Meowth are the ones that seem to care more about things and pokemon, Jessie just has a cold heart and is annoying the hell out of me.

I wish the would just turn them good and do something with them, and bring is some other bad guys, which they have but its annoying to have them in each episode, when I record the episodes I sit there and go threw there stupid rants and stuff and then watch the normal parts of the cartoon.

I swear I've already posted here.

But I think Team Rocket is great. *sort of*

James has a very interesting personality which is what I like about him. Meowth is just too annoying. And Jessie... Well she's a......Nvm..

But I think Team Rocket might be getting a bit old with their motto and then failing at everything. I think there needs to be a twist. Like......An episode somehow dedicated to them... I really don't know. But their starting to loose popularity....

I think Pokémon would be just a little weirder without Team Rocket to come in and try to steal Pikachu over and over and over and phail epicly lol.

James and Meowth are really cool. They have great backgrounds and Meowth has this big life story which is really interesting. Jessie is OK but she's just dumb and a little bit evil. Meowth has that Al Capone type talk and walk heheheh.

personally they annoy the hell outta me but then again they aren't as bad as anyone related to contests, personally I'd like to see them break them up, write out Jesse and Meowth and have James replace Brock as the oldest guy :3

I like the Rocket trio, they're like the only reason I watch Pokemon anymore (I can't tell if I am kidding). I stopped watching forever but then when I started again I was annoyed with how James and Jessie haven't always been on the same page recently and Meowth flip-flops sides, but then in the really recent episodes ("Thief That Keeps on Thieving", e.g.) they seem to be pretty in synch again and that's when it's cool.

i like Team Rocket. they can be funny in one scene/episode, and viciously evil in the next scene.
although their motto sucks now, i still like them. the pokemon who annoys me of the group is Wobbofet (dont know how to spell it). it needs to go

i want to know more about Jesse's personal background. does anyone know what happened to her family? dont answer it. if theyve already clearded that out, then you can tell me that they did in what episode. (i havent watched all the episodes.)

hey! Brock is a major importance to the show. he knows more about pokemon than any other main character. and he cooks! ^_^ the kids would starve without him.
