Just something that I think will help rom hackers decide on tiles. I ask these because I am debating weither or not to insert various tiles, but hopefully it will help everyone in the long run.

    Discuss.

I can't believe no one's commented on this yet. o_O

One reason I like the default FR tiles with natural mapping is because a lot of custom tiles can look really badly done. But, on the flipside, some custom tiles look REALLY great. As for the natural mapping, well, I just prefer it because it doesn't look as square as Gamefreak style. That, in my opinion, is a good thing. Besides, not many can pull off Gamefreak style because they overdo that square-ness. I dunno. Just some of my thoughts. :)

To my opinion, in mapping style... I actually like the natural style of mapping with custom tiles, which is what GameFreak would never even think about doing (even with the newest Pokémon games). On top of that, I also like the GameFreak style as well, just as long as the tiles are customized with big and small trees. Because this is what most ROM Hackers that think about making the ROM Hack as creative as possible do, but for those that wish to get the ROM Hack done as soon as possible end up using the tiles that are already in the ROM and not redesign everything from scratch in the tiles, that is.

It's just like when you're building something or drawing up a design... you've gotta take your time and not rush it. ;)

I've always preferred the standard FireRed tiles as opposed to custom ones; they take plenty of time away just to create them and don't always fit in necessary. Not to say I don't hate them, but I the FireRed ones can be pulled of quite well with a good combination of a map layout.

I'd like to ask you why. :)

Because natural tiles have a more realistic feel to them, and it makes a ROM hack look more appealing (in my opinion). And the more variety of tree tiles the better the maps could look.

Yup, but each portion of some hacks needs diff tiles, so you can't make them too realistic or else they don't fit anymore into the hack you're makin :P

None of the above... I don't like custom tiles most of the time, but I especially hate Firered tiles.

Unless you can actually find really amazing custom tiles, just insert Emerald tiles. :D

Usually the key to creating a very creative ROM hack is to have most of the things customized along with the natural tiles inserted. There's not really any limits to how much naturality you can put in a ROM hack, what I've found from experience is that the more natural a ROM hack is, the more better it is. Especially for a science-fiction type of ROM hack. ;)
