5th Gen Key System

In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, the Key System had three purposes:

  • To change the difficulty of the game between Easy, Normal and Challenge
  • To swap Black City and White Forest with each other
  • To encounter the three different members of the Regi Trio in the Underground Ruins

Certain Keys can only be unlocked in a certain game and to get all of them in one game would require exchanging Keys with another save file of Black 2 or White 2.

What did you think of the Key System, and how much did you use it? I kind of wish the difficulty settings were all available by default, as I'm now stuck on Normal Mode for my current playthrough of Black 2 having traded in my White 2 copy years ago. I've previously been able to catch all of the Regis via the Key System on my old Black 2 save file.

Yeah, they really should've made the keys more easily accessible. Unfortunately the way they were made makes it pretty much impossible to be able to play through the entire game on Easy/Challenge if you only have one copy of either Black 2 or White 2 and don't know anyone nearby who plays Pokémon games. Especially annoying when some of the Gym Leaders literally have an extra Pokémon on their team when you battle them on Challenge Mode.

The difficulty settings one was probably the dumbest one, since you had to beat the game to unlock it, when it's something that you'd want to have at the start of the game. And then you also only had one of the two settings.

Key exchange being a local connection only instead of being able to do via WiFi was also a bad idea, probably one where the whole system was made with only Japan in mind and literally no where else.

Like, the basic idea wasn't bad, just awful execution really
