Knocking Pokemon... Should I flame?

Heh, I found this site made by someone who thinks Pokemon is stupid and the reasons that he/she posted are totally absurd. So I wrote this whole thing explaining why each of the reasons aren't substantial, they aren't based on anything except assumptions or lack there of. S/he read the book by it's cover and s/he jumped to a conclusion. It's not mean or rude or anything (so it's really not a flame ^^"), but I'm wondering if I should send it. That site should be shut down. >_< If nobody posts here I'm going to send it. People like him/her realllllllllly bug me. I can post my reply here if anyone wants to read it and let me know if I'm trippin' too. Just let me know.

I often go visit Anti-pok?mon sites when I"m utterly bored. I analyze they're reasons for hating it and then, if the reasons are not substantial enough, send them "hat mail" for lack of a better word, that challenges them on everything they said. So, in short, yeah. If everything you said was true, I would definitely send the mail. But if this Pok?hater gave substantial reason to hate it (i.e. he's played the games himself and finds them dull or boring) , I would just leave him alone...

ALL CARTOONS ARE STUPID; as we get older we like to watch shows with more mature themes. Pokemon is a children's show, children enjoy it because it's made for them. Just like there are shows made for kids before they start school, preteens, teenagers, and adults. It's fine to have your own opinions about things but you don't have to post such negative things on the net. I'm sure a lot of Pokemon lovers were very offended by this. You'd avoid a lot of flames, I bet, if you just stated that you don't like Pokemon and left it at that. I don't agree with the things you said on this site so I'm going to tell you what I think regarding each of your "reasons."

"Changes have been made to omit cussing, as it had a lot of it."

First of all, the fact that cursing has been edited out doesn't make Pokemon "stupid." But it does make the un-edited version inappropriate for kids. But that doesn't matter because children aren't watching that version. The edited version is the version they know and love.

"SPEAKING: Pokemon can only say their own names. This is really retarded. The reason why parrots can "talk" and dogs can't is because their tongues are made that way, a dog's tongue is too thin to be able to pronounce words, whereas a parrot's is thick and allows it to say things. In short, if a creature's tongue (in this case a pokemon) lets it say its own name, then it can obviously say other things too."

I?m about to show you how much you know. :P We aren?t born knowing how to speak a language, we learn it. But we are born knowing how to communicate, first through crying, then talking baby, until finally we pronounce our first word. It?s pretty much the same with Pokemon, they cry, then they start saying their names. Probably because they hear Humans saying their names all the time, and then learn from their parents to say their name. They do have the capacity to speak English/"Human," I know this because one of the Pokemon learned to. And I?d really like to see you come up with individual sounds for even the first 150 pokemon, it?s not so easy. So a way to get out of doing it is having them say their names. You might think it?s retarded but I?m sure you?re older than the children it?s targeted to. They don?t think it?s stupid. So again, it?s not meant for older kids so why are you ranting? Little kids like it, and older kids like it because they liked it when they were young. When you become a teenager and have to start growing up so quickly, things you liked when you were little are comforting. Most teenagers just getting into Pokemon don?t like it, because they never used to like it.

"REPRODUCTION: No visible organs, no footage of pokemon mating, and no gender differences. Pokemon are not divided into groups of "he" and "she" but "it" and "it." So there is now way pokemon can breed and replicate."

First of all, there's a typo in that. Second of all, you'd have something to say if there were visible organs--I know I would o_o Assume there are some. There <i>are<i> gender differences, there's male and female pokemon for just about every species of pokemon. I say almost, because some of them are genderless. There is a reason that they did that though, it makes the game a lot easier. You have to breed to get certain moves on certain pokemon, but you can't breed relatives or pokemon of the same gender. So they made some of them like Ditto genderless so that people wouldn't have to go out and search for another pokemon that's the right gender, that would be very tedious and annoying. So it's just easier to have a genderless pokemon. And it's not just whether they're male and female, it has to do with which one of them is, so that would make it even harder. So give me a break, they could have come up with a logical way for them to reproduce but little kids don't need to know about that, why do you think they don't teach kids about reproduction until they get older?

"BATTLES: This has got to be a criminal offense, and an animal rights violation! **** fighting (where two roosters slash each other with spikes on their feet until one of them dies)... Also, how do they not die?"

That's a contradictiory statement. First you talk about them dying then you say they don't die. Basically, **** Fighting isn't a good example because it's a lot more violent than Pokemon especially since they are trying to <I>KILL</i> each other. Pokemon don't die, they faint. They <i>can</i> die but generally people try to keep death out of kid shows. And they should.

"POKeBALLS: As I said before, no reproductive organs, so this must mean something else."

That's sick.

"Also, how do they not suffocate in there? There's no air vents or anything! They also can't eat anything!"

It's a cartoon. Many shows have similar things, on Jimmy Neutron they go into space without oxygen tanks or space suits and helmets. If you went into space not only would you not be able to breath you?d probably explode or something... The bottom line, yet again is that it doesn't have to be logical. Most kids wouldn?t notice this anyway, and if they did it?s probably only because when they went out and caught those lizards their moms or dads made them punch those holes in the top of the container.

"And some of them never get out of the balls because they suck so much, "trainers" don't even want to see their ugly faces! It is so retarded!"

Don?t want to see their ugly faces? Riiiight. No one has EVER said that, or anything like it so you have no reason at all to say that except to make it sound bad. If you?re going to try to make something sound bad at least get substantial reasons. And don?t pick something you don?t know enough about. Don?t judge a book by it?s cover.

And the leading characters, the ones that would become role models, don't do that. Ash's pokemon are out of their pokeballs most of the time at Professer Oak's house anyway. There?s lots of different settings too, there?s a lake and everything. They are fed and they?re happy whether they are there on the road with a trainer. The role models don?t think that any of his pokemon "suck," by the way.

"LOYALTY: You're a pokemon "trainer." You're walking down the street and you see a Pokemon. You release one of your other Pokemon and it kicks the other Pokemon's butt. You cram the bruised up pokemon into a ball, and say: "I got one!" Now the Pokemon you caught is supposed to be loyal to you? I doubt it."

They say "you deserve a nice, long rest" all the time. And they usually let them out after they catch them to talk to them. Also, a lot of Pokemon come to them wanting to be caught, Poliwag, Bulbasaur, Mudkip, I can?t think of any more but I know there are several more. Pokemon like to battle, and the trainers treat their Pokemon like friends. Pikachu is Ash?s best friend, he stresses that all the time and his actions back it up.

"ABILITIES: Some Pokemon can fight, others can shoot fire, others can generate electricity, and others can do other stuff. This is not possible unless they are robots in a costume."

Cartoon. Cartoon. Cartoon. Get it in your get. Logic in it?s truest form goes out the window with pretty much ALL children?s cartoons. They have different types, fire types can breath fire?just like fire-breathing dragons got something to say about them too? HMMMM? And what about superheroes? You see, there?s lots of "illogical" things like that in cartoons. I put that in quotes because it?s not that it?s illogical, it?s that it?s fanciful.

"POKEMON "TYPES": I once heard a character on pokemon refer to Pikachu as an "animal type pokemon." This remark stupid because there are no animals on the show. I have not seen a single real animal anywhere one the show. So how can something be something when that other something doesn't even exist? I don't know, and I don't care."

I think you?re mistaken. The types are like grass, electric, fire, water, etc. But they are given title-ish things in the pokedex, I don?t know what to call it. For instance, Absol is the disaster Pokemon because it seems like whenever it appears there?s a disaster like an earthquake, etc. So you probably heard one of those title-ish things. Pikachu is an electric rodent or something, that?s probably what you heard. I really do think you?re mistaken because we never heard the pokedex description of Pikachu, we never had to.

"EVOLUTION: This has got to de the dumbest thing about pokemon. Evolution takes time, millions of years to make the slightest changes in a creature?s body structure, not a couple of seconds. And it doesn't involve a strange white glow thing."

Ehhh, I don?t really like that term either. I?d rather they call it "grow" or something. I don?t believe in Evolution anyway, but I know what it is. It supposedly takes millions of years, and creatures evolve to adapt to their surroundings. When pokemon "evolve" they don?t do it to adapt to their surroundings, they just get bigger (usually) and stronger. So I think they could have just come up with a better term. Anyway, I this is how it?s explained: lots of energy builds up in the pokemon as it grows in levels until it "evolves." The glow-like thing is just for effect--CARTOON!

"TRAINERS: This has got to be a joke. The "trainers" don't even do anything. All they do is throw Pokeballs around, and take all the credit if their pokemon won a battle. This is absurd. The Pokemon train themselves, the "trainers" have nothing to do with it. But still, the "trainers" get all the credit for a won match."

No they don?t. In Pokemon Stadium (the first one) the pokemon get statues made of them to recognize them for winning a contest. And in the newest game, Ruby when the pokemon win a contest, like a beauty contest, they have a picture drawn of them and put up on the wall. It?s not a picture of the trainer. :p And the trainer?s do train them, you just haven?t seen the episodes where they do obviously. I can give you several examples too. Ash trained for hours-days to teach Pikachu Iron Tail. Another Trainer, Brawley, trains with his pokemon in the ocean. It had a lot of weight so he used surfing to teach it balance and build up it?s leg strength. And Ash?s Cyndaquil had a hard time getting the fire on it?s back to start up so Ash trained with him so that he wouldn?t have to get warmed up every battle. And you should assume that they do a lot of training that we don?t see, it?s just that training is usually pretty boring, kids don?t want to watch that. So they just do a little of it here and there.

"NAMES: Catch one pokemon and fine. Call it by whatever its name is. But catch multiple kinds of the same pokemon and what do you get? Multiple names! Are you actually supposed to call two or more pokemon by the same name? It's confusing."

No. You really don?t know anything do you? In the games you?re asked every time you catch a pokemon if you want to nickname it. And in the show most trainers do nickname their pokemon. The only reason the main characters don?t is to help the watchers learn the names and not to confuse them, and when we meet a new trainer with a pokemon we?ve never seen before they <I>usually</I> don?t have a nickname. So you can cross that one off your list too.

"BATHROOM: Isn't it true that if humans and other "living things" do not excrete waste for three days, it will overload their system and they will die? YES! Again, if Pokemon don't have any holes between their legs neither in the front nor back, how the heck are they supposed to take a dump? And if they can't, almost all of them eat so where does the unusable waste go? A living organism cannot use everything that it takes in. It must get rid of it somehow. It is impossible for this to continue."

Yes, which is why you should assume that they do "take a dump." We don?t see any of the humans doing that either but we know that they use the bathroom don?t we. So just because we don?t see them use the bathroom and there are?t any illusions to it, doesn?t mean that we don?t. You keep talking about things being logical, part of things being logical in cartoons (all shows really) they don?t explain OBVIOUS things. And another thing, they can?t show that on the show, that?s disgusting. There are organs but they can?t draw that. It?s INAPPROPRIATE?UNSUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. Stop asking them to be THAT true to life. You?d waste a lot of precious moments in the show if they had to show pokemon using the bathroom all the time anyway.

"CONCLUSION: What I don't understand is that if Pokemon are so smart and powerful, why don't they just take over the world? I guess they're not so smart after all."

You are such an idiot. They are smart the same way that real animals are. My dog went on the side of the house and stared at the gate until it figured out how to climb up it. And it would practice doing it until it build up enough strength. Now I call that smart. And it?s the same way with Pokemon. Only humans are that smart, and they don?t act like or pretend that Pokemon are that smart.

Therefore, my conclusion is, as I have stated, you are an idiot for many reasons. You jumped to a conclusion, you didn?t do any research to find out if you were correct in your reasoning either. You?re waaaaaaay to critical, it is a children?s show. Kids don?t care about the things you brought out, it?s a show, it?s for entertainment. It doesn?t have to be so logical for kids, that stuff goes right over their heads.

Just to include a few comments...

When he mentioned how there were not any animals in the Pokemon world, that has been proven false. Watch the episode where the S.S. Anne sank; You'll see fish, real fish, swimming in the ocean. Just look out the window by Ash and company. And on that Ghost of Maiden's Peak episode, Gastly turned into a mongoose, or some sort of animal. Mrs. Ketchum was eating shrimp one time at the Pokemon League, when they were at a restaraunt eating dinner. There are several times when they have mentioned, or there have been real animals on the Anime. Ash even mentioned that Edison invented the lightbulb! (That was random, but still, it made a point!) So, for some wierd unknown reason, the creators did not say where all of the real animals were, but there have been mentions, and even times when Ash and them saw some.

And as for the 'names' thing... Well, compare Pokemon to real animals. Pokemon is the name of the species, and same with animal. Each species of Pokemon and animal have its own name, such as Pikachu, cat, Bayleef, dog, Charizard, dolphin, etc. Now, unless you give one of those creatures a nickname, then you should call it by the name of its species. Several dogs are called 'dogs', and several Pikachu are just plain 'Pikachu'. It's their species! There are thousands of different animals and Pokemon of the same species, but you all refer to them as one thing: The name of their species. You don't call each of them different things.

-I really don't know much about the science behind communication... however first of all, anything in the anime is quite possible (how did Goku suspend in midair again?). It is actually quite an original idea because all the other previous anime monsters either growl/hiss, or talk human languages... only Pokemon is a bit unique with saying their own name. Not necessarily an excellent idea, but it's an unique one.


People must realize that there must be some things in the world where we can expand our imagination beyond what reality limits us... there must be things such as Pokemon, and other cartoon/anime where the impossible/unreasonable are happening. Without them, where do we invest our imagination? Really we rely on imagination in order to advance ourselves in the society... it's the strive to make imaginations real that pushes us forward in technology and in terms of the development or pretty much anything...

Right you are! I was always a little confused because I thought the pokemon were the animals, but that isn't true. Because I've heard them make references to real animals also.

Actually, the Show Was Not intended for kids, the American adaptation was made for kids, the Anime Cartoon was made for the whole Anime Community... Even if Pokemon had Sexual Organs, Japanese kids would think anything bad of it, while Americans would be WOAH Thats so nasty... Learn the Body of things, it helps.
