So I need to know which to take for my team. Vaporeon has better Sp. Attatck, but Lapras gets the STAB bonus for Ice type attacks, which Vaporeon doesn't.

If I remember right, Vaporeon is a better special sponge whereas Lapras is better defensive wall (if you can call it that) overall. So it depends which type of sponge you need more.

Personally, I'd go with Lapras. I've never had a Vaporeon before but I had a Lapras on my team for HG and honestly, she saved my team a couple times. She was tough enough to take hits and powerful enough to dish them out too. If your looking for a Pokemon with good Defensive stats and equal Attack and Sp. Attack stats, I'd say Lapras. If you want a Pokemon that's faster, with a better Sp. Attack but not as much on the Defensive side, go with Vaporeon.

I'd go for Vaporeon. It's a great Pokemon, awesome attack sponge, and has pretty high Special Attack too, to boot. With a 130 HP/60 Def/95 SpDef defensive spread, it can withstand most attacks, and can easily retaliate with an attack off of its 110 base SpAtk.

Lapras has a better movepool and (arguably) better typing due to a dual STAB. Lapras gets Thunderbolt/Psychic/Ice Beam/Surf which basically hits everything. Lapras also has a better physical attack.

I would go with Lapras. It's saved my team many more times than a Vaporeon. And I believe that it looks better too.

Looks don't exactly matter in this kind of thing. Vaporeon's ability rocks, it's moves rock, and it is a great Pokemon to have on your team.

Lapras has a 50% chance to have Water Absorb too. Shell Armor is a great ability too, though. ^_^

Honestly, just go with whichever you like better. Personally I would go with Lapras because Ice attacks are incredibly useful in this game, especially against Claire and Lance, and moreover its special movepool is way better than Vaporeon.

Perish Song is incredibly valuable in-game in my opinion, when I was against Lance I'd already used about 20 revives yet I'd managed to wear him down to his last Dragonite, so I sent out my Gengar who used Perish Song, then I just spent 3 turns reviving my Pokemon while Lance OHKO'ed them.

Granted, I didn't win fairly, but I won, so I'd choose Lapras, it's a very handy Pokemon anyway, but I always find Perish Song very useful for tough battles like that.
