Greetings everyone, my name is Garrett and I am currently leading a team of college students as we create a fan game titled Pokemon Aeons. I'd love to elaborate on the plans for the game, but I have to address a few things first before all of the veterans begin shouting at me for being too ambitious. Firstly, we are the next best thing to a professional team. Our weakest link is probably me (because I am still learning Ruby), but everyone on the team is aiming to be a professional in their field. I'm becoming a Game Programmer, our audio director is an excellent composer, our designers are in line to become actual game designers at companies, and our five or so artists are all on their way to becoming game animators. But all in all, Pokemon Aeons is meant to be a learning experience for all of us. Our aim is to make a professional-grade game (within our capabilities of course), including the time commitment. We expect this project to last another two years until we graduate. All of this being said, let me give you an outline:

    1. As you would expect, all regions will be in the game. I will address some of the concerns with this later in the post, but I will say that we will probably be releasing demo versions as each region is completed.
    2. A realistic story that focuses on what life would be like if Pokemon actually existed. We also plan to focus on the moral-ethical elements of Pokemon in general. Combined with optional Nuzlocke, we hope to make you cry when something doesn't go your way :).
    3. A unique story that still agrees with canon. You aren't going to progress through all the regions in order for the sake of reliving the original games. Time has passed, and things have changed.
    4. WE WILL BE REDESIGNING SOME OF THE GEN 5 AND GEN 6 POKEMON. I'd rather die than let Swoobat in the game as it is.

That's about all I can tell you without getting too specific or spoiling plot points. So anyways, here are my explanations as to how all of the regions are going to work:

    1. Changing the level formulas in any way will ruin the game. Raising the level cap will not work either. People will feel as though things are taking too long. The solution my designer and I decided on was to enforce the level limits on a per-region basis. Basically, we aren't going to let you use your level 56 Charizard until you've earned the proper gym badge. This encourages players to form new teams and catch new Pokemon, but at the same time allows them to introduce old team members as they progress through the region.
    2. Reason for going through all of the regions? You want to go back home, but home is far away.
    3. Antagonist teams? Yeah, they will all be active. But their goals aren't just "take over the world." They have reasons, they have strategies. It's not a matter of "stop them to progress the story," it's a matter of "can you stop them?" and "what happens if you don't?"
    4. As you can probably tell from this post, the spelling and grammar will be in tip-top shape .. unless we decide to mock those with poor linguistics.
    5. I will say this to close ... you WILL have a reason to backtrack into previous regions. Replayability is improving by the day.

So there you have it. I don't expect any of the veterans to be pleased with the direction of this project, but then again, the project will be completed regardless. If you aren't pleased with something or simply want to talk about the game, feel free to PM me. I don't want this thread to become clogged with "I want this in the game!" and "This will never succeed." That's what my inbox is for.

    Have a nice day.

    :) Welcome to the community!

First off, since this is being made using Ruby, you might want to post the Game Details in This Section.

Besides that, if there's anything you need help with don't hesitate to ask! We are all trying to be as helpful and friendly as we can, so don't be shy :)

This would definitely fit more in Game Development as stated by the above poster. We also have a wonderful Emulation board you can try out in the future if you ever have plans to make a ROM hack! :) What you have sounds wonderful so far. Why not post this in the Your Game Ideas thread in Game Development to share your plans for the game with us? It would fit much better there than here in the welcome boards.

    Good luck!
