    I've always wanted to make this thread, but I had no idea how the reception would be. I've always been of the opinion over the years that the pokemon most heavily marketed tend to be the least interesting and most overused. As most of these are so-called "legendary" pokemon, I think there needs to be a discussion about whether their immense popularity among many younger pokemon fans have made them clich?; in other words, does anyone think there's a sitgma attached to liking and using them, and if so, is it deserved?

    *will post personal opinions later*

    Also, this thread isn't for discussing the gaming (as in netbattle debating; discussing their purpose in the game is completely acceptable) aspects of legendary pokemon <_<;

    i think that heavily marketed pokemon like pikachu are cliche because some people who see cuddly pokemon like pikachu and azurill think they're so cute that the second they catch 1 in a pokemon game that they never evolve them because they look "scary" as their evolved forms. i'm not totally sure how true this statement is but that's the best i can think up.

    I dont usually use legendarys because they are too powerful. I like pokemon that you have to train from low levels. it makes the game more difficult by using normal pokemon(not the type, the ones that you can find more than once) than using the high leveled catches like the legendarys.

    EDIT: Hmm...editing that post was a smart move on your part FoF. Yes...quite a smart move indeed. ^.~

    But yeah, over-marketed media darlings like Pikachu are both dull and a complete clich?. And I would be ready to say that legendaries (Maybe excluding Latias, Latios and the legendary dogs since you actually have to work a bit to make them tough) fit the same category. Personally, I am sick and tired of hearing things like 'Mewtwo PWNZ every 1 cuz' it's L33T and clones all the other pok?mon' (Urgh, that's one of the dumbest arguments ever! *Bangs head against the wall* Stupid movie!). And I'm tired of the countless people who have teams like Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, and all the regis boasting about how great they are. I'd rather take Dunsparce, Shuckle, Cradily, Corsola, Stantler, and Chimecho any day. The issue with most legendaries is that you get them at with more or less tailor-made movesets and at such high levels that there's really not much challenge in making them tough, I began to think of them as boring during the few times I used them. The only exception being my Lugia in Silver which I trained to about level 78. That time I actually felt like there was room for improvement with the pok?mon. Same can't be said for Mewtwo...a Mew might be interesting though since it needs a lot of work if you want a good moveset. Plus, it starts out at a low level. This, of course, had to be restricted to Nintendo sponsored events. -_-

    So yeah, most legendaries are a clich? in my book.

    Very valid points round here...and to me, they aren't clich?. They'rr just pokemon and are used. If they were to be clich?, they'd not be added or something...I'm just rambling now...X_X But I say they aren't clich?.

    Clich?'d? ...meh, tch, I dunno... I guess there's just some more interest in 'em than in most other pkmn... I was a "victim" of it too once... tch, but I didn't overuse 'em. ^^;;

    Total clich? and just make the darn games too easy ><
    In my opinion Pok?mon that are at a way too high level just make the game go by too fast and to easily.
    Personally I like training some of the "weaker" ones into behemoths. Not that I don't like legendaries, I like some and even use some at one point or another. But when it comes to for example the league I refuse to use legendaries. I'd rather stick to the ones I trained from meek to killer.

    I so agree with Alter Ego on the Pikachu statement.

    I don't really follow the pokemon media too much but every young person that I've battled has used at least 2 legendary pokemon. It's a bit rediculous. I really dislike legendaries because it requires little/no talent to make them strong enough to beat any common pokemon (even if the common pokemon has had hours and hours spent on it). Actually... as I look around my room, I note that I have 6 pokemon posters (3 don't really count because they're just the ones with all the drawings of each pokemon) all of which have Kyorge and Groudon as the focal point. That's a bit rediculous... However rediculous, overused, boring, and marketed they are, I don't know if they really can be classified as "clich?." I suppose the term itself is a bit clich?, but I don't think that the pokemon actually are. The pokemon are far from legends, they're boring, spotlight hogs... which is essentially the opposite of what "legendary" means. So, I guess I'd say that they're more of a contradiction than a clich?.

    Legendary pokemon are so clich? every little kid out there instantly takes any legendary pokemon in their team and this summer when I walked somewhere and there was this road where you were allowed to draw stuff and when I checked out the pictures there I noticed a picture of rayquaza >_< I mean come on, why not draw a shuckler, dunsparce or cradily there instead? And the fact is that every uber/legendary pokemon can easily be defeated with either dunsparce or milotic, my dunsparce beat the snot out of mewtwo once and people still say 'Lolz Mewtwo totaly pwnz you, dunsparce is Suckzorz hehee I 0wnz you'

    Legendary pokemon get marketed as these massive unstoppable god like creatures who "everybody must own and have in their team"

    True i have a legendary team i use but only within the game. When i battle a friend i use my fossil team more then anything because Legendaries ain't even as powerful as they are made out to be!

    I mixed records with my friend and he was all like "My team is gonna pwn your team" and got the shock of his life when i tore his team up using only your standard, everday team.

    Summary:
    Legendaries look nice otherwise i wouldn't have Jirachi as my name nor avatar but i wouldn't use mass teams of them against my friend because they are just as vunerable as normal pokemon....Well maybe Jirachi for his healing moves lol
