For those who have read one of hte books and those who have seen the movie should have noticed the rushed and out of order film Nicolodeon has made...

    Spoiler: Spoiler

Who thinks they should have just done the first part instead of mashing and smashing them into one?

Although I havent seen the movie, I have heard things about it and people have told me that it isnt very good; mainly for the reasons you posted above. ^^; I personally think that maybe they should only put 2 books together each movie, to make things easier and more interesting.

Well I havent' completed the second book but I know that hte first one could stand alone for a hour and a half movie.

I've read the whole series up to The Grim Grotto. ^^

Oh ya, and I agree. >.> Although the first book only took me a day to finish reading. *is not to sure she wants to go see the movie*

I just watched the movie yesterday. It was ok, but book was much better. I would suggest just doing one book per movie, so its more detailed and not so rushed. And character's style wasn't exactly as book. Klaus doesn't have glasses or bow ties ( I can't remember if he had one) I think book was way better.

My brother and I were going to see it yesterday, but we decided to wait a couple of days longer so that my cousin could see it with us when he comes to visit. ^_^; So, I'll be seeing it soon!

I actually can't wait to see the movie! I've never read the books before so the whole story will be completely new to me. But it sounds like some of you were actually disappointed in the film, and I could understand that. Since I don't know what the books are like it probably won't affect my opinion, though... I was mainly going to see Jim Carrey in it anyway, since he's my favorite actor!

Hey i was gonna make this topic.....oh well...
I've seen the movie and read the books (not all of them, book 11's only just came out over here).
i was very disappointed with the movie, everything was out of order....nothing was right out all, it was almost completely changed. I enjoyed reading the books, the movie wasn't very good, they changed too much of it. I mean what happened to the quagmires?! i was hoping to see them. A very big disappointment it was, the only part i liked were the snakes....(i love snakes to bits, i was in giggles to see the banana snake)
Loved the books, not the movie....*shakes head*

What's up with klaus not looking like a really smart formal guy? And what's up with him not being shorter than Violet! I can almost die... x.x SO er, was Jim Carrey Count Olaf? I didn't watch it yet.

Jim Carrey is Count Olaf, yes. Meryl Streep is the weird aunt of the children (I haven't read the books so I can't remember XD). I'm a movie critic anyways (The only movies I've liked in the past 2 years have been Chicago and Bridget Jones' Diary (NOT the sequel)), and I was disappointed. I am going to read the books, and am getting some for Christmas, but I hope that they will be better than the lackluster film.

    If you haven't read the book, then you won't mind the movie much. I read the entire set of books, and I'll have to agree, it was a bit rushed. I believe it would have been better if they just made 3 books in one movie at a time. =/ Jim Carrey did an awesome job, he's awesome <3 He reminds me of my younger brother. XD;

And too many parts were not added to the books, such as the spyglass thing. O_o

I read every book of it out so far, and I'll have to say, they're better than the movie. I was kinda dissapointed at how everything was so rushed. tsk tsk. It would only dissapoint those who read the books, for people who actually read the book.

I finally saw it today, and I liked it! But, even though I haven't read the books yet I could sort of tell that they were trying to cram a lot of things into the film. It was a bit difficult for me to understand... You had to keep up and follow along with a lot of things, and not being familiar with the original storyline didn't help me very much. I still liked it, but there were a few times where I got confused.

The acting was good, though! I loooved Jim Carrey in it, lol. ^_^ He's my favorite actor, and he was so funny in it! I didn't think he was as funny as he was in a couple of his other movies, but there were still some parts that had everyone in my family laughing a lot. He seemed like the perfect person for the role, to me! I loved his impressions, too... No one else could have pulled them off as well.

And does anyone know if there will be a sequel? If they're only going to make one movie then I'll be eternally confused because the ending didn't seem complete to me. *scratches head* I guess I need to read the books, lol.

Oh, really? I'll check out the books sometime soon and see how different they actually are. I'll most likely still really enjoy the movie though, because it's funny! I like Jim Carrey a lot as well, and he does remind me of my younger brother a lot. XD They're both really funny!

I found out why the quagmire triplets weren't there (the movie was based on the first three books). But i was still disappointed.
jim carey is a good actor but i don't think he made the part of count olaf, i mean count olaf was very formal and sly....jim carey did that and added funny into it. if there's goin to be a second movie i hope they don't change too much of it....i mean they changed so much in this one. (there's supposed to be 13 books all together by the way, if thats any news to anyone :\ )

If the movie and book people want to cash in like JKRowling did for Harry Potter, then there'll definitely be at least another 2 movies if they cram 3 books into a movie. But Harry Potter is always better in written form than on the silver screen.

That's American blockbuster cinema for you... happy endings...
... the football player making the big score
... always the puppy licking the face
    ... ahaha...
To answer the question, I prefer the books.

    ^ *was introduced to the books by rabbitsdying* I actually read the sixth book first, then I became addicted and read all of them before I knew it. XD;

Anyways, I don't think there's gonna be another movie. =/ I mean, it said 'The End' didn't it? n_n; I liked the books better. More filled with mystery. >>

P.S. The 'weird aunt' is called Aunt Josephine.

I haven't read any of the books. I went to see the movie because my little brother has read and loves all the books. I knew virtually nothing of the story or what happens in the books and yet...I agree that it was rushed. Not only that but it wasn't planned out properly. They had the actors, a somewhat interesting story, it just wasn't executed properly. I hate knowing, the feeling of knowing somewthing really big that the people you are watching do not. When you have a feeling or you know something small then that's alright. But you know throughout the entire film that Olaf is after them and in disguise and all the rest of that. The children ram that fact into your head every chance they get. But the adults don't know until the end and that just annoys me. Watching an entire movie feeling that everyone is stupid beyond control. They could've (for those of who hadn't read the books), made these odd characters more believable, not used Jim for all of them, and not told us it was Olaf until the end when everyone else found out.

Even things they didn't reveal, I guess at and was right. Everything was rushed. That was three books, but it looked like each book was a chapter. It was so squishy. There was no richness to it.

Things were predictable, being in the know was annoying, it was trying to be dark but didn't quite get there, and it was rushed.

    I only liked the costumes.

It was a bit rushed. But when you consider the fact that they were trying to cover a dozen books in a single movie, it wasn't too terrible. I have only read the first few books and they did leave quite a bit out though...

Despite the fact some scenes were altered, I'd say it wasn't too bad.

I read all of the books (except for the eleventh one...couldn't get my hands on it >_<) and I was thrilled they finally made a movie out of it. Jim Carrey was awesome actor, and Violet (played by Emily) was a new addition that I really enjoyed. Plus, I just adored her hairstyle.

Sunny was the most virtuous one in the whole film. I really liked how they portrayed her innocent baby talk. X3!!! So cute~

I hope they make a second one. The first three books in one film didn't turn out that bad. At least it wasn't the whole series.

    Good actors. Baaad movie.
I think they should have just put the 1st two in the movie, instead of the 1st 3. Take out the spyglass. That confused me a lot. Don't introduce V.F.D. yet. It's too early in the movie.
    Books pwn movies.
But another one wouldn't be bad ^^ Just limit it to 2 books, because the books get a lot longer the further you get in the series.
Sunny-so adorable~! She was the best character in the movie. Her cute little teeth and her cute talk that almost noone could understand ^^
