So right now, I'm about 3 months into my college course and I'm loving it so far. The topics we're covering are right up my street, I've made some great friends along the way, and I know that I'm on a course that will hopefully lead me to the career that I want. There's just one slight issue. I've got a tendency to slack when it comes to studying outside of college which seems to be my downfall when it comes to retaining stuff we've learned in the lesson. My goal is to not only improve on my attitude towards studying in my spare time, but also to achieve the qualifications I've set myself in order to apply to University next year.

Another goal is to gain weight which I've already kinda touched on in the other thread. While that is another goal I'll be working towards, I'm still prioritizing my education at the moment. I've got a couple of other smaller things I'd like to achieve but there's plenty of time to get those sorted afterwards.

Anyway, I'll try to keep this as updated as possible as some extra motivation to hit these goals and I may add some more if I think of any. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Current Goals

    [hover over]
    • [title="Almost finished, deadline is Jan 15th so I'm just making some final amendments.]Finish University application [/title]
    • Spend at least an hour studying at home.
    • Gain some weight
    • [title="This won't be until Summer but I'll be working towards them through the year]Achieve qualifications[/title]

    Minor Goals

    • Get a part-time job
    • Set aside savings
    • Get my own place

So for studying! Are you able to plan and set aside a specific time, every day or most days, where you tune out the rest of the world and focus on studying? I find it helps to have a legit routine if it's something you tend to put off.

Do you know how you're going to get your own place, in terms of the steps to take and how much you need to save? (well, I at least know a little about how it work for the US)

this is pretty much what i'm striving to do right now. being on christmas break doesn't help since motivation just goes completely out the window buuut i am gradually getting back on track. definitely think i should make a routine so that every day i have a specific set time when i can just focus on studying. i'm doing bits here and there which is better than nothing i guess!

yeah, kinda. i've planned it for a while, just when it actually comes to going ahead with it is a different matter. i think i need to set aside more money before i start looking but the average rent prices are anywhere between £250-£500 per calendar month. so long as i have a steady income that covers rent and also allows me to have some money to set aside would be ideal.

Oh also maybe if you're not able to/happy with blocking out an entire hour you could do two half-hour sessions with a break in between of some sort? I don't know what's worked for you before or what your schedule is like but I know I can't focus for a full hour when I don't really want to haha.

Yeah, might give that one a try. I'm back at college now anyway so things should hopefully pick up.

Hey, how are things going? Are there any potential jobs that you might be looking into? When are University applications normally due? (US here idk)

Not so bad! I've started looking for jobs, mainly just part time stuff so I can still continue with my course so it will probably just be something in an office. I've done that kinda work before and enjoyed it so that's what I'm aiming for rn. Uni application deadline is Sunday next week so I've only got a few days left to sort things out now. Luckily I've already got pretty much everything boxed off with that, I just need to go over my personal statement to make sure I've included everything that's relevant.

hihi how'd january go overall? any accomplishments and/or things you've learned so far?

not so much on the weight gain side but definitely improved on the studying. while i still haven't consistently been doing an hour a day, i've certainly improved from what it previously was. sat an exam on tuesday and felt much better about it compared to when i first took it!
