Suggestion: Life Advice Sub-Forums

  • PokeCommunity has a diverse set of topics to be discussed tough it lacks one area. Mature discussions. I am aware there is a sub-board named Discussions & Debates. Yes that board handles serious topics, but what I propose is a section to be created solely for serious discussions about life experiences.

This thread will not be restricted by age, but the users will be asked to maintain a certain level of maturity. A forum has already been created for fun & games. This sub-board is for the sole purpose of ranting or asking for advice.

If this Serious / Mature sub-board would be created I would appreciate there would be no threads dedicated towards 18+ Pics (I would not appreciate the circulation of poke pics on this site. Other communities are already dedicated to that sort of material, and anybody interested in that could easily join those communities.).
From all I've seen from this forum it is family safe. A forum for pokemon fans to come together, and discuss any topic from Absol is really cool to I'm addicted to porn, Me and my dad fight sometimes, or Walter White is the man.

I appreciate the family friendly feel this site has, and the mini family feel it has. Apart of being a family is the ability to discuss topics that trouble us (in our daily lives) and get help on how to face the challenges that the poster faces on a daily bases.

This sub-board is not a discussion for more "mature" topics, but rather a safe haven for the Poke Community to comfortably write about life experiences, struggles, addictions, or whatever is on that persons heart. This Sub-board is for those who wish to go beyond general chit-chat.

This thread would not be a place for debates but rather of encouragement of your fellow man, woman, or pokefriend. We all go through something, and sometimes we need the advice of a person removed from the situation to help us out.

  • As I mentioned in the other thread, I very much support this. We could all use a place to let out and get help from the community, bonding with each other even more.

We do already have blogs, but a sub-forum dedicated to this matter seems only fitting to me.

Yeah, about life, school life. It would really help people in the educational/job aspect of life, I guess. And some ranters will finally get a new pet forum, too.

  • I like this suggestion. I've seen it work well in the past. Everyone needs a venting place sometimes and that would be a great place to vent and have some of your more experienced members guide you along!

dA's forum has a 'help with life' section and it seems such a thing would actually work quite well, yes. There is already a sticky thread for this, but it's not very easy to find so I don't think the lacking activity there is necessarily a good indication of how active an an entire sub-section would be (and the original Post Your Problems thread was very active).

Seems a lot of people are actually interested in this. What I would think fitting could be to rebrand D&D a bit to be more about general "deep" or personal or mature topics and not just about news and world problems. Which I don't think it is even nowadays, since there even is a help & advice thread kind of, but people might think so.

This is pretty much why we have blogs, visitor messages, and as Cassino mentioned; such a thread already exists. Also to mention, there's copious amounts of DCC's in which you can bring up these sort of topics in. It's not that I dislike the idea, it's just that we pretty much already cover it enough and there wouldn't really be enough activity in a sub-forum. The Help & Advice thread only has 3 pages since April, and this is essentially what you're suggesting on a broader spectrum. The activity it would receive simply would not warrant a sub-forum.

I don't see how VMs cover this unless one has a specific person or persons around here to go to for help, which is often enough not the case.
I added Visitor Messages as part of alternative suggestions on how you may approach other members conversationally on topics, regardless of the topic type. If you read my post it would be quite evident that they were not my sole resolution to what the original poster suggested. Pointing out the availability of Visitor Messages was simply bringing to light an option in which a user has if they wish to speak to other users about subjects that may not warrant a topic, the same goes for PM's. I gave an array of suggestions for the user to observe, pointing one out because you don't find it applicable to you doesn't really distract attention from my primary point; which is that there are plenty of opportunities for such discussion to arise (such as the link you provided) as well as DCC's and so forth, and that the sub-forum would not be warranted due to the fact that it wouldn't assert itself in terms of activity.
