Make-a-Mega

Make-a-Mega is back, that means that once again the Daily is calling on all artists to share with us some of your talent! Every second month (alternating with Alolan Mix-Up) the competitive battling whizzes over in Battling & Team Building will work together through a series of polls to create a new Mega form for a Pokemon that's missed out on one. Once the Pokemon is decided though, it needs some artwork to go with it in the Daily article that will introduce it to everyone. This time around, we need an Ice/Poison Mega Beartic.

You'll have until the 25th of July to submit your artwork after which we'll conduct a poll ending on the 29th to determine which submission gets featured in the article. Never fear though, if enough of you submit art, we'll link the article back to here so everyone's work can be seen. Happy drawing!

I usually only do sprite work. I decided to go for a Dream World Art Style because I sure am no Sugimori.

I tried to reference cubchoo's cold to tie in the poison type concept. The greenish yellow mucus indicates that Beartic has a severe form of influenza and is highly contagious. I went this route since it ties in what I associated with the contagious seasonal flu in the winter (ice + poison). The pupil is greenish yellow to indicates symptoms of mental delirium and disorientation associated with influenza. The blue markings on the fur are pox (nothing to do with flu, but certainly a sign of contagiousness). The nose is red indicating runny nose. Icicles protrude from its back, the viral infection has spread to some of them (purple ones).

Anyways I hope it is not too disgusting. I tried to keep it colorful to make up for the fact that this is one sickly Bear. The reason why the delirium is so important is to indicate that Beartic is sort of oblivious to the suffering of the influenza, and therefore, is not weakened but thrives from the ailment.

This was a contest to design a Mega form of Beartic. However, the submission date passed and we already featured a piece and artist!
