6th Gen Mascot Legendaries Problem

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the mascot legendaries in this game (Xerneas and Yveltal) did not get enough of an exposure in the storyline of the game. I feel like they were really unimportant when it came to actually getting up to them and facing them.

If you compare it to 3rd Gen where the entire game was pretty much based off of the legendaries, or even the last 2 gens it felt like the mascot legendaries really had important value to the game where this one had almost nothing outside of facing them and that's all.

My question being is anyone else dissapointed by this and do you hope they fix this up in the next game of this series?

I agree with you. They should base the storyline around the legendaries and not the bad team.

i don't remember any legendaries being that important in any pokemon game, a lot of the time i felt like they were trying too hard to make them part of some sort of story

It doesn't really bother me. I guess it'd be a bit cool if they had more sstory importance...but its not something on my wish list.

And mascot legendaries are rarely important to the story anyway. The only time I feel they were was in Black/White. And I guess Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza had a little bit of importance in Gen 3, as well as Giratina in Platinum. But just a little.

My feeling is when I saw the trailer(s) for the game and I saw Xerneas for example it felt like there was going to be some type of importance in relation to the new legends. I imagined the battle with Xerneas being in a forest or something mystical, or at least when you encounter it, it will be there.

Xerneas and Yveltal got the same story treatment as Kyogre and Groudon in my opinion. You didn't hear anything about them until the bag guys plotted to obtain then and only got to see them right when the bag guys were near their goal. Palkia/Dialga and Reshiram/Zekrom had way more story exposure in their games being mentioned a few times before their plot specific arrival. And mostly referenced by NPCs not belonging to the bad guys.

I wish the legends had more backstory but then again they excused it by saying the legendary has been asleep for a long time so they know very little...however such an excuse doesn't fit...as Kyogre and Groudon asleep too...and Reshiram and Zekrom were stones... yet we got more out of their stories before facing them (for Groudon and Kyogre their story was in Mt. Pyre). Sure Zekrom and Reshiram helped create Unova...(the political entity I'm assuming as I don't think they have the same powers as the Weather and Creation trio to craft regions...) but Xerneas and Yvetal also changed life in Kalos...which is even bigger of an event. Also...I wonder how Az got the legends in the first place to build the weapon...and how Lysander got them in the present time.

didn't AZ just use a ton of pokemon to power the weapon? i don't remember anyone saying he used x/y. Besides, they're probably making a movie for them like they do with everyone else, that's where almost all the info on legendaries come from.

Ya I felt like I didnt know anything about xerneas until I battled it. It felt like they just forced a legendary into the game.

during the game they only stated a few things about them, but comparing it with other games, the other legends have much backstory and also the teams showed what they were searching and what they were planning to do with them, but since generation 5, teams have succesfully caught the legendary pokemon and put into action part of their plans. For XY I guess they remained in a low profile, they only gave info on what they were planning to do, then the machine, and at the end the source power (the legends), this may be because they already got the legendary pokemon and went like secret agents not telling anyone what methods they were going to use, only what they wanted to do. So maybe they did everything top secret and the player had to speculate/figure out what they were going to do and use and when they finally infiltrate into their base they find the shocking truth.
So in synthesis, legends in previous regions had more backstories, the legends in this generation were kept top secret until it was the moment of the truth.

They are in fact making a movie featuring Yveltal, Xerneas, and Mega Evolutions, titled "The Cocoon of Destruction".

The anime usually doesn't have info that isn't in the games, their in game story is usually expanded on or filler is added to them...or differs slightly such as Mewtwo having been created by Rocket in the anime but in the games nothing is said at all.

Also Az proably did use the legend as the legend served as the core as the weapon and what gathers the energy. Also it's likely where they get all the info on them from for the dex such as Yvetal absorbing peoples lives.

the anime expands the game, not the other way around, weather it was Team Rocket or Mr. Fuji who made mewtwo, if it explains more than the games then its good.

As for the info on the pokemon, that's a thing you're not supposed to talk about cuz it would point out a major plot hole in the games.

in the manga, it was the Fire Gym Leader who created Mewtwo. he cloned Mewtwo by combining his own DNA with that of Mew's. eventually, Blaine and Mewtwo die. In FireRed, Mew gave birth to Mewtwo, being the only recorded "live birth" of a pokemon, since all others lay eggs instead. in the anime, Mewtwo was a clone of Mew with some human dna added in from the lead scientist's daughter who was in the tank next to it. it was in the extended version. there is a lot of speculation behind mewtwo, but since two sources say he was a clone, and all three say he was from Mew, all we as players can agree on is this: he is Mewtwo. and he is the original Legendary.

I agree. I didn't pay attention to the dialogue that much this game, but when I did, they only mentioned Yveltal/Xerneas a handfull of times. I like when the game is based around the main thing you know what I'm saying?

You know what I find ironic, the people who complained about how GF needs to focus less on the mascot legendaries on their stories are now complaining about the lack of importance of said mascot legendaries on their stories. It's people like them the reason why Xerneas and Yveltal were barely mentioned in the game's plot outside of their subplot from Anister City.

didn't lysandre give himself immortality at the end?

i have a feeling the story isn't done yet.

What makes you think that? As far as I know, there was zero indication of what happens to Lysandre after you defeat him. Perhaps the next game will elaborate...

Maybe not z version... remember we all expected grey version but we got black 2 and white 2. Maybe we'll get x2 and y2 and the story will continue rather than a z version thats the same except with zygarde.

but x2 and y2... sounds like math

A whole other topic but I'd rather just have a Z game rather than another X2/Y2. They can make a third game a sequel as well...

I was so underwhelmed by the legendary involvement. They were hardly mentioned then suddenly they're infront of you and you have to catch them. I was caught off guard. And the same with Zygarde, Mewtwo et al, they're just there

They could've/should've been incorporated a lot more. Hopefully Z will fix this. :P
