This is just an opinion....Do you think a more mature version of Pokemon is possible? Like a version that includes blood, fist fights, guns, death, pokemon abuse (maybe not), and all the other things little kids shouldnt see.

Do you think it will work?

No. Pokemon gets a bad enough rap from certain groups the way it is.

Not to mention, if you add in all those elements you just mentioned, I don't think it would be "Pokemon" anymore. It would be something much, much darker, and most of the charm of Pokemon is that it is lighthearted and fun.

What would be nice is if 4Kids (in the past) & PUSA (present) didn't have to censor scenes or whole episodes for, in my opinion, silly little reasons. (Beauty and the Beach, Legend of Dratini, etc.)

For blood, fist fights, guns, abuse, and death, I'd rent a Quentin Territino (sp?) movie. For something fun and carefree, I watch Pokemon.

I don't think that would work out. I wouldn't want to see everyone dieing in an anime, but that's just me. I like pokemon because no one ever dies and its exciting (:

You know what, I half agree with you I half don't. Your right, it wouldn't work but still... no one ever dies, and that means like everyone like an immortal god or something. I don't like that. But your right it wouldn't work.

yeah because mature = blood and violence.
if Pokemon would be to get more mature, I'd expect deeper storylines, deeper characters, romance and maybe some homosexual relationships. And maybe while we're at it, have Team Rocket get away with stealing some Pokemon

I don't think so. If a mature version was made, then parents of younger would be kind of so-so about letting the kids watch a show that also has a mature version. That's my opinion.

    SHOCK AND AWE!!!!!!!

That would be called "Pocket Monsters Special (Adventures)" = What kept me going during my Pokemon "slump" that happens when you start "moving on"...

The manga is more mature. Look at the failure that it is compared to the show.

Now that I've calmed down even more...just explain why...=D

As others have said, the manga is a more mature take on adventures in the Pokémon world. In case no one realises what that meant, all I said was that we've already seen what a more mature version of Pokémon is like.

A Pokémon anime that was more mature would be amazing and brilliant. Most of the old fans would be roped back in. The franchise might even be considered cool again. Team Rocket would do worse than cutting the tails of a couple of Slowpoke and the protagonists wouldn't behave like a bunch of three year olds the whole time. Yep, I would love a more mature take on the anime.

Tajiri's personal sentiments on the issue of death (a.k.a. it shouldn't be cheapened by it happening constantly) would not allow it. A series based on blood and gore would go against the creative spirit of the franchise.

And I can see that the OP is one of those "hardcore" people who seem to think blood and violence = maturity. It does not. Quality does not require such things, and they are only mature if used in the proper context.

I think uninspired and stereotyped is a much more accurate description of the spirit of the franchise. Really, it's been the same thing over and over again for ten years. As it is, I've seen cheap deaths in the Pokemon movies already (deaths used strictly as plot devices are cheap deaths). I mean, the whole concept of Pokemon completely contradicts his views on death anyway.

I think there should be a change, but I do agree that it can be a tasteful change and that it doesn't necessarily need to rely on blood, gore and killing. Trust me, there are great shows that have been made that had no blood at all, no real death and still had excellent plots. It can happen. It's just that the creators of the Anime don't let it happen. They're the anchor that drags the show down and prevents it from being as good as it can be.

Tajiri should just take that approach if he doesn't like death. You don't necessarily have to kill a single living thing.

Satoshi Taijiri controls the games, and has little influence in the anime. I merely brought up his sentiments because the anime producers have to take this into consideration.

And I really dislike your attitude towards the creators. If you don't like their decisions, watch something else.

Funny. The staff credits on the end of Pokemon (be it a Movie, TV Special, or Episode) seemed to imply the opposite in regards to his influence on the anime (it says "created by: Satoshi Tajiri", which, in the way it's worded hints that he was the actual creator of the anime, and thus is a major influence to the anime. I mean, if they said "based off the game series that was created by Satoshi Tajiri", that would have implied that he had very little influence on the Anime.).

Besides, one could also say that, after GSC, he has little influence over the games (since he isn't in interviews anymore, among other things, heck I think there was a thread on that topic sometime ago on I THINK BMGf), and also, I heard that he didn't even influence the creation of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (I heard he was out sick when the idea was written.).

Though, yeah, I kinda agree with you. Sbaby, if you don't like the anime, and can't be nice about it, can you at least try and NOT respond to the anime thread?

On topic: I really don't want the Pokemon Anime to go all "Conker's Bad Fur Day" on me, but I do want some actual depth on the anime (like, oh, I don't know, one of the main characters parents being murdered [similar to that Jiro guy in "Blue Dragon"].).

The closest thing to my vision of Maturity would be if it had similar writing to "Star Wars".

"Created by Satoshi Tajiri" is just a way of having a homage to the guy. It's akin to "Based on the book by". Nowhere in a reputable source does it say that Tajiri actually writes for the anime.

Hmm... I really don't think it's akin to "Based on the book by..." because "Created by..." actually means "created by...", not "based on the book by..." Otherwise, virtually ALL of nintendo's 1st party games/2nd party games (or any video console company with games that are 1st/2nd party.) would not have much influence over even those sets of games, just because "Created by Nintendo" or "Created by Sonic Team" is nothing more than a homage to them. So, in essence, that ALSO means that the Pokemon Games are barely influenced by Taijiri/Gamefreak/Pokemon since it says "Created by: Satoshi Taijiri/Gamefreak/Pokemon" ("If A=B and B=C, then C=A" you know.)

now that would be an improvement! less censoring and more character development. im really liking that idea. its just too bad that the show didn't "grow up" like the original fan base...

Pokémon is having a lot more character devlopment these days. Unlike other "mature" shows. *coughCowboyBebopcoughTheMelancholyofSuzumiyaHaruhicough*
