Mature version of Pokemon

Uh..

Pokémon is having a lot more character devlopment these days. Unlike other "mature" shows. *coughCowboyBebopcoughTheMelancholyofSuzumiyaHaruhicough*

I have to agree...But the writers could always do better....be more motivated so to speak...

How can't you be motivated by makings millons/billions of dollars/pounds/yen? This is how they want the show to be by the looks of things.

umm, he didn't say that they weren't motivated. He just said that they do need to be "more" motivated, which means that, while they are motivated, they need to be more motivated than they present themselves.

Even if he did say they weren't motivated, I'd argue that they might also be somewhat unmotivated (I mean, the Groudon Kyogre Arc had some... very messy artwork (the scene where Kyogre blasted off JJM seemed like a little kid drew the the thing [I'm not kidding.].), and some plots made several... err... mistakes. I mean, for example, for a Filler-Important episode comparison, the guy training Tyrogue said he was training for the P1 Grand Prix, and despite Ash winning the Grand Prix (and loaning Primeape to Anthony, not to mention), he and his friends acted as though they never heard of it. for a Important episode = Important episode comparison, considering how, in "A Fan with a Plan", they acted as though May used Skitty in the Fallabor Contest even though she actually used Beautifly in said contest (BTW, this mistake was ALSO present in the Japanese version, just to prevent people from saying it's one of the Dub's Mistakes.). I mean, if they were motivated, wouldn't they take extra care to make sure that there are absolutely no mistakes (or at least, as little mistakes as there can be)?

And I really dislike your attitude towards the creators. If you don't like their decisions, watch something else.

Actually, when 4Kids first did the show, they did "Based on a story by Satoshi Tajiri," which I thought was fair. Did I think he has any control on the show? Nah, but I know that he created the concepts, hence why he's credited as such in recent times. Good for him.

I haven't been critical on the creators, as I focus on the other media (anime, Special), as the creators have good ideas. It's the execution thereof, by other people, I have problems with. Don't worry, my lowered expectations have... made certain I'll never get emotional into the debate, as I was when I first viewed Johto and how it utterly failed (the first Houndour episode, oh, God, I was livid).

My present concern is putting the names to the scripts. Thanks to Bulbapedia, I'm finally beginning to.

Edit: As for this "thinking ahead" and all that. Look, the writers aren't Joss Whedon, and they are never going to be. I'm lucky if they think one step ahead rather than two or three, like other writers. I've noticed how they write in the moment, and that's how some writers conduct themselves. Just have to deal with it.

Let me clear up a few things.

Maturity levels should go up AT MOST to a PG. Remember the Golden Show Business Rule:

More Audience = More $$$$$

If money they want, they can turn it up a notch to more mature themes, slight language, and minor Teen Content. This will expand more Teen Fanbase than kill The 4-7 Fanbase.

Remember guys, it's all about $$$$$.

I only know one thing if this show was more funny and "mature"- I might watch it more. :D

I don't, and I do. But I also watch Pokemon on the off chance that they might make the plot more interesting. That doesn't mean the storyline isn't uninspired and stereotyped. It was cute at first, but now it's getting boring.

Yes it was pretty good in Kanto and Jhoto (or at least part of Jhoto). But look at it now. I think Charaxes is pretty on the ball about not having high expectations for the series at this point. And who can blame him? Because I don't honestly foresee it getting any better in that department either.

I wouldn't be that upset about it. But if the writers would put any remote degree of effort into it, they could come up with a series that has a storyline on par with SatAM or Avatar (both shows that aren't all that violent or 'mature' to begin with). I guarantee more people would watch it then, and the kiddies would still be appeased by the cuteness factor.

The music is awesome though. I've always liked that part of the show. If nothing else, that is one good thing I can say about it.

Truthfully, the Master Quest episodes (or late-Johto) did impress me (particularly the Lugia arc, the Crystal special, as I knew of it first airing in Japan and "Dues and Don'ts"). However, yes, my lowered expectations chimed in, as "it will fail on you, later on." And it had with the Silver Conference, which is a shame, as Address Unown did a good job capturing my attention.

On this side of the Pacific, 4Kids absolutely failed me on the Crystal special, which angered me, as I had defended them throughout the years. Sighs.

These days, I should be more optimistic, as D/P is adopting game canon at a fantastic rate and it's adopting a more Western approach in writing (Galactic). Nevertheless, the show is still over-the-top with dabs of absurdist humor, and I can't afford to take it seriously. After all, if the show won't take itself seriously (contrast to Special), then why should I? That's the question I asked myself, after I dropped my expectations back in 2001.

I figured to explain my mindset, here.

Are You talking about Pokemon Special/Adventures? Do the anime fans know of this alternative in Pokemon? Seriously during my "downtime" in Pokemon, it was PokeSpe that truly got me back into it and catapulting Pokemon back into the top of my faves. But DP is good...Yet for older fans who are "tired" of the cuteness...Know that there is an alternative.

No offense to the anime. As I said earlier, I love the movies, the Music (Op and ED + the Movie music) and DP

The show is definitely going to need to step it up in order for me to watch it anytime soon. But I expect shows to have good character building and a well-developed plot...It's hard to do that in one that has been on for ten years.

I haven't watched the anime for years... it's downright terrible. If TV shows were flames, then Pokemon is a fire that somehow keeps itself alive by burning itself. There's pretty much zero character development, zero plot.

On the other hand, the movies can be pretty darn good.

Eh, some people think that Pokemon should be mature. I am not one of them. The show does fine for what it's supposed to be, and it wouldn't be the same "matured". Also, one person's art is another person's wangst, and I really wouldn't want to hear about emo Ash's personal problems every other episode.

Pokemon turning emo = no.
The only thing would happen from that is even MORE pokemon haters.

Good character development does not necessarily include people being emo. It includes characters reacting realistically and in their own unique way to given situations, as well as them growing as a person and a thinking individual. This does not really happen at all in the anime.

I don't think it would change much cause they had some banned episodes that were more violent in nature
I think the only people who actually kill pokemon would be team rocket, galactic , magma, aqua, those type of people
I think most trainers would make the others faint not kill them

Spin off

I've always thought they should have a more mature version of pokemon but as a spin off series, not mature as in blood or violence but rather the characters need to be more complex with more plot (trying to become a pokemon master can get boring especially after four seasons and Ash is hardly any closer to being a master). I would never get rid of the current version in place of a more mature one because then you'd lose all the little kids as fans. When they get older they can move on to the more mature version and then Nintendo can keep their fans for life.
