The advent of XY introduced a never-before-seen aspect in Pokemon: mega evolutions. Most mega evolutions have been noted to have highly improved stats and a different ability. Most, if not all, of these evolutions has caused some Pokemon to rise in tiers. Most notably Charizard which has two mega evolutions, and it was NU during the last tier shift before XY. But the question is, how did they affect the tiers? Is there a great imbalance of power between megas and non-megas? Should megas be tiered differently? Should Mega Gengar be unbanned? Complain here, but do it like cool people do.

lol unban mega gengar are you on crack

Megas made ou infinitely worse than it already was in bw, and by only making one relevant defensive mega they hindered semistall horribly and made stall basically running skarm/chansey/glisc/quag/mvenu/filler or Get ♥♥♥♥ed

    trash meta trash idea

I do like the concept of Mega Evolutions, despite people claiming its a Digimon rip-off. Pokemon temporarily going Super Saiyan? I'm down with that.

But it does have its problems. Mega Evolution was a nice way to breathe life into some lower tiered Pokemon who needed a boost, like Charizard, Gardevoir, Mawile, etc, and was a nice way to spice up certain others, like how special sets are viable on Lucario now because of its Mega Evolution. But then they gave megas to some Pokemon that really didn't need it, like Garchomp, Blaziken, Tyranitar, Mewtwo, etc. Did any of thoes Pokemon really need a mega? No. Then there's the fact that a few didn't really help out the Pokemon much, such as Abomasnow or Banette, who desperately needed a boost, and their "boost" kinda failed to do that.

I do agree with Moxie to some extent. Megas didn't really do much to help with the power creep that's been occurring since Gen 4, and it can be a ♥♥♥♥♥ to switch into some things these days, and defensive mons break easier than they should sometimes. a base 150 stat used to be considered earth-shattering. Nowadays? ♥♥♥♥♥, please, that's nothin' now. It'd be nice if Game Freak introduced something to deal with the crushing power of some Megas (and some of the other powerful pokes), whether it be good defensive Megas or non-Megas, but we can't really rely on them.

Zeffy you know that is a terrible idea.

It's just a shame because XY didn't introduce a ton of strong threats. Aegislash, Greninja, and Diggersby are the only really strong pokes the game introduced (Sylveon and I guess Chesnaught are alright too but aren't power creeping anything), but the Ghost buff and the Dark/Knock Off buffs, combined with mega evolutions, pretty much ruined that.

While I initially thought it was an insane idea, I think that a blanket ban on high-tier megas is worth a look, or perhaps more reasonably, more targeted bans. Does anyone seriously think Mawile is good for the metagame? The "which Charizard is it?" crapshoot is obviously bad, especially since X is broken by itself lol. Everyone seems to forget Pinsir now even though it's pretty broken. After that, I think they're substantially less broken. Gyarados is probably the best remaining but isn't quite *broken*...but that's sort of the problem. The power creep is so great that Mega Gyarados (which is amazing, fyi) is like, the fifth most broken mega. What the hell is that?

OU's tiering process is taking far too long. Shoot first, ask questions later.

(And the mega topic doesn't even address Landorus, Thundurus, and Aegislash. Ugh.)
