This is merely a small suggestion, it's not extremely necessary, but it would be cool.

Quite simply I'd like to see a bbcode tag that allows one to embed a video posted on Megavideo. These players don't autoplay like Youtube players generally do when you don't tell them not to. Megavideo, unlike Youtube is a lot less draconian. They don't aggressively take down innocent AMVs and such that PC members might care to share with others.

Now I know the temptations that such a tag might bring, and I know full well PC's stance on copyrighted material, but I'm certain that members and mods will handle the few who are silly enough to post full episodes of anything on PC well enough. We aren't a video hosting website, this is true. I would just like to see a more content friendly site like Megavideo get a BB tag here because there are some things you JUST can't upload to Youtube and expect not to be harrassed to death by the copyright trolls.

Note the modifiable parameters here: Bold for Video ID and Bold/Italic for object size
Check out the embed code and notice it's as simple as Youtube's embed codes typically are.
    Code:
    <[B][I][U]object width="640" height="468"[/U][/I][/B]><param name="movie" value="https://www.megavideo.com/v/[B][U]YA3AV8ZTea9812c0598f3115770bca833d4dbbd62[/U][/B]"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="https://www.megavideo.com/v/[B][U]YA3AV8ZTea9812c0598f3115770bca833d4dbbd62[/U][/B]" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" [B][U]width="640" height="468[/U][/B]"></embed></object>

Awesome! But not many people would want to post Megavideo videos, would they, since almost no one uses it. And another thing about Megavideo is that there's a limit. After a certain time of watching Megavideos, you have to wait for 72 hours before watching again.

But this is a great suggestion. I'm supporting this because there are some videos I might get to show others. And that embed code was just awesome. Nice work there, keep it up :D

I don't think it's 72 hours, I think it's 70 minutes per day or something similar to that (but I could be wrong I don't use Megavideo much). And I honestly don't think that would affect embedding whatsoever, considering the idea isn't to be able to post full episodes or something like that. Another note: YT videos only autoplay on the actual website, they don't when they're embedded.

But yeah, I honestly don't see why this couldn't be implemented. I probably wouldn't use it, but it can't hurt to have it for the people who would.

I believe Megavideo has lifted that limit, and it's not nearly as bad if you sign up for a free account there either.

Megavideo hasn't lifted their limit on how much you can watch everyday. You can only watch 72 mins at a time, and then you have to take a 30 min break. While not everyone will watch that much, it's still a precaution we have to take. Also not everyone wants to have to become a member of Megavideo just to watch more than the designated time for those who aren't members.

The only way we'll run into that situation on PC I think is if someone gets on Megavideo beforehand, watches enough to use up their limit, then immediately goes on PC and tries to watch more videos from there. Honestly, I don't see that being a big issue, considering just having the tag won't mean that the videos are in every other post and people will still be much more likely to use Youtube over Megavideo. And waiting half an hour to watch any video on PC isn't a big deal imo. I don't see how it affects whether or not we get the tag at all.

Megavideo embedding is notoriously bad though, just like their native player. If you press the arrow, you'll get a popup no matter what--and then another one if you click anywhere before the video starts--and then clicking on the video often opens it up on the native anyway. I'd settle for just linking to the mirror...

I wouldn't be object to Vimeo or Vevo embeds, though.

What he said. I doubt there will be nearly enough Megavideo usage for that "rumored limit" to be an issue. I use Megavideo regularly, both signed in and out of it. I get no ads, no limits or any of the sort either. The embeddable player code can be modified to avoid that, it's just an onclick(); event that surrounds the player itself and that's fairly easily defeated by NoScript and Adblock Plus, as well as most browser popup blockers. Nice try there though.

NOW Vimeo or Vevo, I KNOW LIMITS viewing. I've run into such things after only two 10-20 minute videos in. Also those sites have a poor turn-around ratio, they take down videos just as often as Youtube does because copyright trolls band together and **** brix of DMCAs on their desks. MegaVideo doesn't have that problem, they make it much too difficult for just anybody to just crawl their site to find content they can make legal threats off of. Typically you need to know the LINK of the video first.

If we MUST provide other video player services, then Megavideo must also be included. This way if you post a video to PC you have many choices as to where you want to mirror it, depending on how copyright-troll resistant you are.
