Are there any suggestions on how to catch Mesprit?

I've tried Ultra Balls, Great Balls, Pokeballs, Quick Balls

I'm wondering, though... I caught Uxie and Azelf and got the National Dex. Would I be able to bring in a Wobbuffet, stick it in the lead spot, and make the Mesprit stay put?

    Yes..you would..
Its the best solution...provided Wubbofett can handle its attacks.

I'll give that a shot, but Mesprit is close so I'll try once more before I fly down to Pal Park.

Wow...Did I say Mesprit was close? No, it just moved at 5000 miles per hour away from me as I was getting close to it. If it weren't for me wanting something even more rare than Mesprit, I'd use my Masterball.

I recommend using a high levelled Crobat. That's what I was using. Then go to a place between two routes and keep switching routes by stepping across, this cuts down so much time. If you're playing at night, try Dusk Balls. Otherwise, Ultra Balls will do.

You could also try putting it to sleep the first time (It will then run) after putting it on low health. Then, when you see it again, it will already be asleep and on low health, ready for you to spasm out with Ultra Balls etc, until it wakes.

I didn't realize damage/conditions carry over from battle to battle. I was just ball-tossing (for the record, I've never seen the legendary dogs, latias, or latios in all my 200+ hours of Pokemon, so I'm fairly new to this hunt thing)

Wait...So I can hit it or give it a status condition, and it will carry over to the next encounter? If I had known that...gah. Alright, new plan.

    Yes that is correct.
The Pokemon would be exactly the same as you left it last. Kinda stupid and illogical, but it's like that. Sleep is the best for getting it.

Don't use your MB as well, otherwise you'll have to go through this with Cresslia again, and that's harder to catch.

What you do is stay at an area where the route changes, go back and forth so Mesprit moves. Once Mesprit gets in the are of your route just go get him. I did this while trying to hatch and egg at the daycare. :D

I went to bed, but here's my story:

After learning I can damage it, I dropped three Close Combats on it with Infernape, knowing it wouldn't be effective. If I remember correctly, Mesprit is in the red zone with about as much health as it can have in the red zone. My plan is to use a Mach Punch to get it lower, and then try Hypnosis or Grasswhistle. But it's exam week and I have a group study thing for this German language I don't speak but am expected to understand fairly thoroughly, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to catch this thing.

Of all the legendaries in Diamond and Pearl, is Cresselia the only one that warrants the use of the Master Ball? I still have mine on Sapphire, and I have Rayquaza already transfered over to Leaf Green. Unless there is another reason to keep it, I have few qualms about using it on Mesprit.

As an insane man with much patience, I recommended you use Pokeballs.

They do work. Just about half as well. And when they finally do work, you get bragging rights. Make sure to damage it as much as possible.

I don't want to use Gengar because it's Poison type makes it weak to Psychic attacks.

I think I know what I'm doing when I get home, though (taking a break from studying at the library).

    - Catch a Sableye in Sapphire
    - Trade it to Leaf Green
    - Level it with the Exp. Share until it learns Mean Look
    - Pal Park it into Pearl
    - Mean Look Mesprit in the face
    - Catch it

I noticed that the Mirage pokes know the last four moves they would learn by natural leveling. So Mesprit will know Confusion and Future Sight, both of which Sableye is immune to. Charm isn't going to matter, and Lucky Chant will be stopping critical hits that I won't be trying to dish out anyway.

I just have to make sure Sableye moves first. Maybe I can Stun Spore Mesprit.

Thats what i did too :p

I used my gengar and used mean look then caught it with a great ball :P

Yes, mean look does save you from it running away. I used Golbat then mean looked then got him down to red and used a few dusk balls, i did the same thing for Cresselia

you can't get wobbetfett before you get the national Pokedex, and I think that you have to catch Mespirt

I've got my Sableye on it. For some reason, Future Sight hits Dark Pokemon. Personally, I find that preposterous, but whatever, I potion through it. Anyway, I'm throwing balls like a pitching machine and I haven't had more than two bobs before Mesprit broke free. But I have quite a few, and worst comes to worst, I'll be reloading and trying again.

Well, the use of Sableye was very nice against Mesprit, since I only had to potion once every two or three Future Sight hits. However, I am reloading. I used -

    15 Great Balls
    15 Ultra Balls
    15 Pokeballs
    5 Heal Balls
    10 Dusk Balls
    10 Timer Balls
    10 Quick Balls
    1 Premier Ball

81 balls in total, with only two of them getting three bobs.

    Needless to say, I'm livid.

I reloaded, caught up to it, threw four Quick Balls after the Mean Look, and the fourth one got it. Computer-generated luck is one of the greatest mysteries of the world.

I prefer to use paralysis because it wont wear off like sleep. Then I just used the Golbat with Mean Look and used the Golbat to weaken it.

Speaking of Mesprit, do I need to capture Azelf and Uxie to complete the Sinnoh dex?

    no. no.
Seeing them is enough in these games, and I'm fairly certain that you "see" them when you release them from Galactic's control. Or not, in which case you wouldn't have to catch them, but you get much props from others when you do.

Wait a sec, how can it run if it's asleep? Did they change that in DP or something (I remember in the older games, if you put a runner to sleep, they wouldn't run)?

All in all, I'm probably just gonna put it to sleep with Gengar then switch in a Gyarados and use dragon rage a few times till it gets in the red.
