Note: I'd like to see if there's any interest amongst competitive players to discuss how they use certain Pokémon in Gym battles. Since this is the first of its kind, I'll see if this can be a weekly thing. Let's start with our first Pokémon:

    Info:

Wigglytuff is a tough Pokémon, no doubt about it. It's one of those Pokémon that you really shouldn't judge off the bat by its CP level due to its inflated HP pool and low defense. A Wigglytuff with the right moveset can take on many Pokémon that are significantly above its CP, including the powerhouse Dragonite. For example:

This makes Wigglytuff a key player in leveling prestige in a friendly Gym. As attacking an opposing team's Gym does not take into account CP differential (each defeated Pokémon drops prestige points by a flat 500), you're better off going by basic matchups. However, for training your own Gym, Wigglytuff's surprising DPS output and sustainability makes it perfect for racking up huge prestige points.

Pound is actually the highest DPS quick move in the game and Wigglytuff is the best candidate for the move as it's currently the only Pokémon with relatively high base attack stat and gains STAB from it (Clefable and Jynx have higher base attack stats, but neither gets STAB). For Normal-type attacks, Pound also generates the second most energy per second for charge moves, right behind Scratch. So when you combine that with Wigglytuff's STAB Hyper Beam or Play Rough (Dazzling Gleam's high cooldown makes it the worst of the three charge move options), you have a serious threat.

Do you have a Wigglytuff? What is your experience with it?

After I exhaust my Water pokemons with Ice Charge move, Wigglytuff is my go-to Pokemon when challenging a Dragonite. If the gym pokemon defenders are diverse, Water-type with Ice charge move would be the more flexible option.

But if a number of Dragonites are lined up, I will surely position my Wigglytuff and Clefable to go head to head against them.

I only have one so far, and it has a crap moveset, so i cannot power it up because i need the candy to evolve another one.

I use it as a gym defender, not as an attacker because of the bad moveset.

One thing i would like to add: After you are done using the buddy feature to help complete your pokedex, Jigglypuff is the most efficient buddy in the game. It is the only one that gives 1 candy for 1 kilometer AND that has a 9.5 over-all arena rating AND it only costs 50 to evolve it. Assuming you manage to catch a rather high-level jigglypuff with rather decent IVs every now and then, you get an additional awesome gym pokemon every 50 kilometers.

wigglytuff is a BEAST for sure! i have 4 ranging from 1213 cp to 1641 cp, and will have another one in around 1200 cp tonight. once i realized how many points i was racking up with them, i stopped powering them up.

My first Wigglytuff has Feint Attack and Hyper Beam. I find Feint Attack not as good as Pound, because I can only get off one attack between dodges. However, Feint Attack is dark and useful for taking out psychic pokemon.

Now I have a second Wigglytuff with Pound / Hyper Beam. I haven't used him much in gyms but plan to try him out.
