Do you have Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon? If so, great.
Get Fortune Teller Tents. Preferably a few, when just starting out. Hits the desired result faster with more.
Wait for a day with Decent, Good, or Pretty Good luck in Festival Plaza. Preferably Good or Pretty Good. Depends how patient you are. Could also begin with Decent to get better Fortune Teller Tents, then be more choosy.
Do the Battle Agency. Unlocks after Sophocles's trial. Yields tons of coins, especially with the multiplier from Fortune Teller Tents. (Forgets the precise mechanic to keep others' Pokemon around for a long time. Try registering people with high level Pokemon as VIPs.)
Are you in normal Sun / Moon? Wants Fortune Teller Tents once again. Get the relevant buff. Presents a few options from there.
Talk to the people hanging out in Festival Plaza with red text boxes. Supposedly resets every hour or so. (Note: Register people as VIPs. Increases the amount of coins you get.)
Missions. Personally went with breaking boulders with Tauros (solo). Takes less time and focus. Heard about people preferring Inverse matchups.
Wonder Trading. Wonder Trade with someone. Go into your castle. Talk to the person. Wonder Trade again. Offers only a few coins without multipliers. Benefits from both the Festival Plaza luck and Wonder Trading luck, however. With two "Good" lucks: 2 x 3 x 3 = 18 FC per Wonder Trade. Could go as high as 32 with both "Pretty Good".
GTS Trading. Not really a good option any more. Runs into a certain hacker very easily. Crashes your game. Advises depositing Pokemon, rather than searching for them. Double-dips like the Wonder Trade one, though. With two "Good" fortunes: 4 x 3 x 3 = 36 FC per trade.
Could do these things in Ultra Sun/Moon too. Heavily recommends the Battle Agency over these. Receives sunglasses as an extra bonus later on also.
Oh, and do not worry about overshooting a Festival Plaza level. Cannot level up more than once at a time. Solves this by talking to someone for any amount of coins. Triggers one of the level-ups you should have gotten. Continue until you stop leveling.
