We were talking about this in the Staff DCC, so I figured I'd post something so we can see how others feel about this.

So, I know there are a few fans of Miley Cyrus here and a few that... hate her guts. As for me, I'm in the middle; leaning more towards hating her guts than being a fan of her, but I found that it's hard for me to hate any artist. Except Justin Bieber. Anyway, she has a new song out called Can't Be Tamed, which is her first single from her upcoming album I Can't Be Tamed. As the name suggest, she's leaning more towards Pop Rock than her normal sound. I don't know if this is a maturing sound, but judging from the preview for her music video for it, I can certainly understand that this is a maturing sound for her.

Embedding is disabled for the video, so here's a link to it. And here's the preview for the music video.

    Thoughts?

Her new sound is different from her other stuff(don't like it much tbh), and just from the music video preview she sure is growing up faster than she needs too.

She seems to be growing a bit too fast... That song preview sounds a LOT different from her usually pop-based stuff... It doesn't sound that good... But that's just my opinion..

sounds like all the other frothy club-trance-pop garbage that's been playing on the radio. i hardly call adjusting to genre trends and gradually straying away from the innocent disney-star persona 'maturing.'

Ehhh I'm unimpressed. While I dislike her acting and stuff, I've found her songs either tolerable or good. Usually not great, but things I could stand to listen to, or actually sorta liked when they came on the radio.

This... it's one of those repetitive songs that gets annoying very fast.

Also, is it just me, or does this sound like something written for a male rapper, and then slightly rewritten to work for a teenage girl?

    Arghh! Ears bleed!

So she's gone down the route of dark synth beats has she? It didn't work for Britney (Womanizer), it didn't work for Madonna (Give It To Me), it dosn't work for her.

Frankly, some executive at Disney has seen the popularity of Lady Gaga and gone "Yeah we can make some money that way". It's just very badly written and badly sung which isn't Miley's fault as it isn't her vocal style.

Anyway, I tend to stay away from Pop music, though I do enjoy "Hot 'n' Cold" and "Bad Romance", but those are exceptions because they are just so well done.

i think she's great. and i listened to her new song and i thought it was good. i dont see why some people hate her so much.

Sorry, but she just sounds slutty there. "I go through guys like money"

I think she's trying to grasp to those 15 minutes of fame that she can by being racy and controversial compared to her good-girl image from Disney. I'm sure she's expecting people to talk about it, especially with lines like that and some of the others I've heard in it.

Just because she's getting older doesn't mean she needs to make her music "grown up" too. She is still a role model for young, Disney-aged girls, just like Britney Spears is/was. But I'm sure it'll still sell millions because that's how life is. :)

I like her new sound.. but her attitude is horrible. A bunch of the lines make her sound ****ty.. In my opinion, she is the next Britney Spears.

I saw the video and I rather liked it. And then she started singing.
She's not just growing up too fast.. she's growing up in the wrong direction. Her other stuff is bearable to listen to on better days, but I don't like her and this doesn't make me like her any more. Hopefully she'll eventually realise the difference between maturity and bad taste.

Good thing girls are looking at Justin Beaver right now. In fact, for once I'm glad he exists. Without him we'd be having a little... humongous spike in teen pregnancy. Dodge a bullet by an inch, thank you Miley Cyrus you Slumber Uttinhooker.

Okay, I've changed my mind. After hearing it a few more times, I quite enjoy it now. The video was actually half-decent as well.

Oh, it's different? Sure the lyrics are a bit sexual, but that's it. She's trying to breakout from her Hannah Montana image? It's just like Party in the USA, catchy, but it just screams ''Please don't sing 'Best of Both Worlds' in front of my face''.

Frankly, if that song was inserted in Hannah Montana, I wont notice that she's trying to be different at all. Heh, just like all of her other songs.

Omg... I love her music and the video for Can't Be Tamed but Miley is a huge contradiction. She says she doesn't listen to Pop music but she makes it, she says the internet is bad (on the internet) but she... never mind. I love this song/vid and I can't wait to see where the album goes. She looks amazing in the video too. She is so the new Britney.

I think she is getting massively influenced by pop stars such as Britney or Lady GaGa. :D

The album is influenced by Lady Gaga as what as I have heard which is more of pop and electropop.

Furthermore. It's sounds good than the rest of her songs.

The funny thing is, just last year she claimed to not like Pop music... but had one of the most played Pop songs last year.

I agree, I remember hearing the line "I go through guys like money flying from my hands" or something along those lines, I mean majority of the younger generation are glued to Miley. Now, what's it saying to young girls if this is the music they're going to be subject to?

    >> Personally I think Miley is a **** and I have no interest in her music what so ever,
but I'm not out on a big ol' hating on Miley mission.
